Beta 3 - Hard freeze on Mac

I am not sure you will be able to find this as the freeze completely locked up my Mac - no cursor, no keys working, couldn't switch to other apps, all I could do was power it down. I was just scrolling through the NAB when it happened. As you can see from the photo, the orange target thingy just froze on the screen. It was really ugly, I have never seen an app able to do this to a Mac before.

If you had logging enabled, grab the logs before restarting the app.

Attached are the logs, but on my 2017 MacBook Pro I can duplicate this every time:

1. Open Verbum beta 3 (maybe does it for Logos too?)

2. in command box type "Open NAB to Luke 1"

3. Using two fingers on trackpad, slide down and up a few times, so it scrolls through a few chapters.

4. Using the up arrow to the right of the "Article" dropdown in the top right corner, start clicking it. Freezes hard every time after maybe the second up arrow click.

I have been playing with it some more, if you click the up arrow slowly it does not do it. Click it quickly, multiple times, click click click click, fast, and it freezes right away. Can you try that?

Turns out it is simpler than what I first came across in normal work flow. I have recorded a video, all you have to do is bring up NAB (or maybe any bible, or any resource?), and start clicking the up arrow fast. Watch this video, you''ll see the orange circle keeping up as I do it slowly. But when I do it fast, you see the whole machine freezes. Does this help? Can anyone duplicate this? It's a nasty bug taking out the whole system requiring a hard reboot, everything is gone...

Using the NAB and duplicating both what you have written and what I see.. nada. Sorry! [:s]

Modern OSes are designed to isolate applications from themselves and from the OS itself. It should be “impossible” for an application to freeze the entire computer. If no other macOS users are able to reproduce the problem with the steps you've given, it may indicate a potential hardware issue on your computer that's causing the freeze (that just happens to be triggered by the animations in Logos 7).

If the hang does seem to be related to the “visual cue”, you could try disabling it in Program Settings as a workaround.

Curious about Mac model ? (personally have chosen to delay macOS 10.13.2 High Sierra upgrade due to known Mac Mail display issues with Intel HD Graphics 3000 in 2011 models)

Apologies since unable to replicate freeze on a 2011 MacBook Air running macOS 10.12.6 (was able to capture more visual cues from clicking Up arrow)

Internet search for "animation freezing macOS High Sierra" finds a number of discussions about latest macOS freezing on a number of Mac models.

Concur 'should be "impossible" while remembering some kernel panics that crashed computer, including one while working on this reply.

After unexpected crash, did some macOS maintenance to remove two automatic updaters that ran with root privileges (followed by restarting Mac to verify updaters did not appear in task list).
