Calendar Views Not Responding on iPhone

On my iPhone 7+ v11.2.2...When I look at the calendar in the "Month" view, I see events, but I am not able to click on the event to bring it up.  I have to go to the list view to do that.  Is this a bug or feature to be added, or am I missing something?  Thanks!

P.S.  On my MacBook Pro I can hover cursor over the event and view a pop up window.
