PG Guide's multi-commentary abilty a huge help

I have really found the ability to set multiple commentary sections up on a passage guide to be a huge help in organizing the PG Commentaries. I'm still in the process of tagging all my commentaries but for those looking for a way to organize them the following picture may help and if you don't know how i got here feel free to ask.

I'm guessing you made custom collections for each kind, then added each to a new section in the PG?

Correct. I tagged my commentaries according to where I felt their strengths lay (e.g. LC for language Commentaries). to make this easier filter your library to a commentary series. highlight one of the volumes. Hit CTRL + A to select them all and then add the tag to all of them at once. Then Set up a collection to "mytag:LC". Do the same for Pastoral Commentaries, devotional, Study Bibles, etc. Then create one collection with a rule of "type:Commentary" and in the minus column subtract out all the other collections to leave only those that are un-designated.

I started to play with these ideas, based on what I assumed you had done, but I was attempting complex Collections rules.

I think tagging first, as you have done, for simple Collection rules, is the best way.

(Again, thanks for a great idea to manage my many Commentaries. I have about 30 sets, and have yet to decide which ones I like for what. I can't ever imagine reading all of each one. They are referance tools, rather than straight reading I think.)

Glad I could help. There are two resources that could help in your tagging. you could tag them according to how they appear in www.bestcommentaries.com. Additionally someone has created those complicated strings and posted them on www.wiki.logos.com/collections. below is a "for instance" from the wiki. You can simply cut and paste their rule into a collection.

I agree with Philip. It's a really helpful feature. I think I put the rules on the Wiki, though I've tweaked them a bit since. You'll notice Here they are now:

Would the commentaries marked "Technical" at BestCommentaries probably be the primary ones for tagging as "Language Commentaries"?

That was the matchup that I made. The nice thing about the tagging is that you could have the commentary show up in both the Language and pastoral if you thought it had both qualities, as bestcommentaries marks them as well. That way they are not excluded from consideration if you simply look at pastoral.

I use a limited number of commentaries, and have them prioritised. I can turn them up in parallel resources. I also open my Bible (Lexham discourse) in a separate tab in reading mode. And now I've made a dictionary collection, I can open other dictionaries in parallel mode in a separate tab if the first dictionary doesn't give me enough info.. I love being able to do all that in reading mode, but still wish it had a maximise and restore button I can hit with the mouse, instead of having to look for F11. Also I sometimes accidentally hit something else that knocks it out of reading mode.

Some mice have programmable buttons on them that you can set to mimic F11. You can also access reading mode from the panel menu. I can't wait...well, I can...but....anyway, I'm very excited for when Reading mode supports multiple columns. For some reason until then its still difficult for me to read.
