The rule does not work

If I create a collection and type the rule: title:”small group” I get these titles:

Biblical Foundation for Small Groups
Small Group Idea Book
Small group leader’s handbook
Starting (& Ending) a Small Group

But I do not get: The Big Book of Small Groups

Can you explain why?

Its because it is in quotes which looks for "group" but not "groups". The first book in the list you mentioned is titled "Biblical Foundation for Small Group Ministry".

Thanks for the quick answer. Sometimes, the logic of logic alludes me <grin>.

Within quotes means search for this exact phrase.

I wrote the rule as: (title:small AND title:group) and I got all seven titles in my library!

Also, in this rule-- author:(oswald,chambers) -- is the comma treated as the operator OR ?

If I type the rule -- title:small group ANDNOT myth -- it works.

But if I type the rule - (title:small group) ANDNOT title:myth -- it does not work. It does not matter how I nest the phrase within the parenthesis, the rule gives nothing. Which seems to limit the usefulness.

Am I missing something?

I think Logos is reading it as "Small in the title AND group anywhere" I'm not sure why title:(small group) doesn't work as "small AND group in the title." but title(small,group) seems to work as "small OR group in the title"

And while I'm at it, I never realized how funny "small" looks spelled out. It just seems like such a strange word.

Here is another problem I am having.

The rule is -- title:worship OR subject:worship OR title:praise

But Logos does not catch: Allen, R. B. (2001). The wonder of worship : A new understanding of the worship experience. Swindoll leadership library. Nashville: Word Pub.

I'm not sure why this is.
