William Gurnall, The Christian in complete Armor

Here's one that John Calvin Hall [;)] will agree with.

As someone who has been studying SW for years now, Gurnall's work stands head and shoulders above much of what passes for writing on the subject.

A certain Christian Distributer of Books has this to say about the work:

Arguably the most significant spiritual and biblical theology ever penned from the English Puritan era, the presentation of William Gurnall's (1616-1679) The Christian in Complete Armour in an accessible single volume is certainly a landmark, and much welcomed, event. According to the Apostle Paul, the world is at war. Not a "hot war" but a war in the realm of the spirit. This war, paul warns, requires special armament, and he explains that armament in Ephesians 6. Anglican cleric Gurnall began to explore Paul's exhortation in sermons and lectures, which he published under the title The Christian in Complete Armor. A perennial best-seller in Gurnall's own lifetime, these teachings became his legacy, influencing well over three centuries of Christians and eliciting praise from the likes of Richard Baxter, John Flaven, John Newton, Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards. Historical theologians and Church Historians should benefit greatly from this volume, as should anyone who stands in the Reformed tradition. It sheds much light on the pre-critical puritan view of the world, as well as illuminating a subject matter both theologically and spiritually that us moderns either ignore or take for granted.

There's a link in my profile to it.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

There is probably a PD version of this which Logos could produce.

I couldn't agree more. The Puritans had the human heart down to a T! They knew what made us tick. That's why they are still relevant today. Jeremiah 17:9

Yes, please. I would love this in Logos!

I agree. I'm looking at his bound hard cover published by BOT. It sits beside Cotton Mather, Spring, Evans and other great Puritan writers. Not a bad idea to get a bunch of Puritans. As you mentioned, these guys know how to write and preach.

Thomas, thank you for posting this snipet on Gurnall's work. I came across it today and have been looking for something just like it. Not sure how I missed it earlier but picked it up today--primarily due to what you and others have said about it.

Matthew, thanks for your reply. As usual, I wasn't very clear in my post. I came across it today via a post by T. C. Black and purchased it today from Logos. I meant that I did not know how I missed it when it was in Pre-Pub.

Glad to hear it Daniel.  It's one of the few works I own in both Logos and Dead Tree format.  And the Dead tree format is currently more marked up than my Logos version but that could change.  :-)
