Cascadia Syntax Graphs: Meaning of Asterisks

In the Cascadia Syntax Graphs of the New Testament: SBL Edition resource, there are some elements that are marked with an asterisk and some that are not. I cannot find anywhere on the wiki, forum, documentation or the cascadia glossary that defines the use of the asterisk. In the image below, you'll see that the same kind of element appears both with and without ("CL").  Any help?

Now if you try something simple:

Clause Function (Gloss=Heart, Head =No)  ----> you get 6 results in Mark

Clause Function (Gloss=Heart, Head =Yes)   -----> zero results in Mark, because there is no Clause Function with an asterisk against it (i.e. Head node)

Now try Phrase (Gloss=Heart, Head = no) ----> zero results in Mark,

            Phrase (Gloss=Heart, Head = yes) ----> 26 in Mark, where all Phrases with an asterisk are listed, not just the highest head node.

To see the object of a head node you have to follow the lower head nodes (ignore nodes without an asterisk).

I don't know why some Clauses are not a Head node e.g. first one in Mk 7:7. For practical searches I don't specify head nodes, but use the fact that higher levels carry word-level information.
