BUG: "My Faithlife" Spam

I am not a Faithlife.com fan. I try to keep an open mind, but I get irritated every time I have to visit the site. There is potential (i.e. it could be useful for my small group), but too many things prevent me from using it (or recommending it to anyone). Here is one example:

For the love, why do I have to keep reading what "Rev. Dustin T Parker" has to say. I don't know who he is or care about his posts. "My Faithlife" should be COMPLETELY blank except for those I choose to interact with. It is my understanding that I am in some group that he is in. Is that right? Is there a way to turn off all of these posts? I would never invite my small group to join something like this as it stands.

Ugh. I didn't understand. The "mute" is "per person," not "per group." Is that right? So I will have to "mute" EVERY SINGLE PERSON that decides to post?

It appears that I am associated with "Rev. Dustin T Parker" through the (now defunct) "Faithlife Mobile Apps Beta" group:

It will be easy enough for me to leave that group, but why should posts appear simply because we are in the same group?

Posts should only appear from "friends" and/or posts made to a given group. In this case, he isn't my "friend" and it wasn't a post to the group we share!
Even with the rule from #1, you should be able to "mute" a group.

If those rules were in place, for example, a user could be a member of a FL Group tied to his/her small group / sunday school class, etc. and receive prayer requests, homework assignments, etc. without being bothered by all the "noise." One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone hits "reply all" to an email and hundreds of people receive correspondence that doesn't relate to them. The current status of FL is almost as bad! [:@]

I'm sorry for the frustration.

You are correct that you should only see things from people you have a closer relationship to; early on we made people "Members" of groups by default instead of "Followers". Large, public groups like "Faithlife Mobile Apps Beta" should be Follower-by-default, which would let you use the group but not cause the 'co-member' status that lets you see each others' posts.

We'll be fixing this, and revising existing groups. I'm sorry for the trouble.

I received two “invite” emails today. Why was this so? The more interesting of the two groups I was invited to (again, don’t know these people or want them spamming me) was a group to encourage canceling orders. I am sure you want everyone in that group, right Bob? [:P]
