I'm looking for information on tags. The help button in Logos doesn't have anything.

I saw a commentary type of a book in my library that is listed as a monograph. Can I tag it a commentary and have it show up in my passage guide under commentaries? I tried to do something with the tag button in my library, but I got nothing that made any sense to me.

One thing I want to do is to break up my monograph books into more usable pieces. I started making smaller collections, but this tagging thing intrigues me.

No - this particular piece of metadata (resource type) is defined by Logos and not user-selectable.

You can create another section in the Passage Guide and potentially have the resource show up there. Please post back if you want more details on this.

In the screenshot below I have defined a collection using a couple of tags I set up in my library. This allows me to group together a specific set of books based on my criteria (specified using tags)

OK, so I'm trying add resources to my various collections. There are a lot of books in monographs that I want to put in a commentary collection. The fastest way seems to go the library, tags, and then enter the collection. Then I find after each one, the library indexes and goes back to the beginning, so I have to scroll down back to the place where I was. This is a good sign.

I'm adding tags to the books in my library. Is this supposed to be adding them to my collections, or do I add them first and then go back to the library and tell it what I did? I'n not sure what the point of tagging is. Is it just a reminder of what I already did?

If you have a tag named “systematic theology” (for example) and create a collection using that tag then when you tag a book with that tag in the Library it should be added automatically to the collection.

Are you seeing that?

Perhaps you need a new collection(s) to make use of those tag(s)?

Don't forget that you will see your tags listed in Searches as well as Collections

These tags/collections appear for Morph and Bible Search:-

These tags appear for Basic Search (and include tags on monographs):-

So I can select a tag and have a Search on resources that carry that tag.

You have to make appropriate selections in the Guide for this to happen.

(1) From a Collections section, select Settings and

(2) Select an appropriate collection

the rule for this collection is mytag:Christology

I could have selected mytag:Christology from the menu instead of this collection

(I had tagged many monographs with Christology for this purpose)

But I will only see results if the monograph resources contain references for the passage (Rom 7:7-25 in this case)

Note that a collection is not automatically created for you. If you want a collection for your tag, you need to create the new collection yourself and use the appropriate search string in that query. Then all resources with that tag will show up in that collection.

When I open a collection from the tools menu, it shows me what books are in that collection. If I open the library in a floating window, I can drag resources from it and they show up in the collection. I was told that that would happen if I merely tagged them in the library. I think it might have happened once or twice. Not sure. But in general no.

I have the collections. Some have quite a few resources in them. But now I am going through my monographs and trying to put them somewhere where I will actually be able to use them. I can drag them from the library and they will show up in my collections, but simply tagging them in the library is not doing it.

Your collection needs to be created by defining a library search string rather than by dragging resources to the collection.

Take a look at Graham's screenshot in his very first response. Note how he doesn't have any items in his "Plus these resources" list, but he does have two tags listed in his "Start with resources matching" section.

You'll want to create a new collection, then add "mytag:<name of tag>" to the rule field. Then you should see all the tagged resources show up in your list, and this will automatically update as you tag more resources.

The Rule box will determine the resources for the collection. So mytag:Christology will make use of resources you tag with Christology.

Done all this. Finally found a book I tagged this morning in the collection. Went to the library, tagged another book, but it's not showing up. Shut the collections, reopened, thought it might make a difference. not yet.

This is a bit frustrating.

I discovered that if I am searching using the title index of the whole library rather than just the monographs, it keeps my place. If I search only monographs, it goes back to the beginning. I can live with this.
