Oceans Become Like Cesspits

Here in the UK, there is regular news coverage of plastics polluting the oceans. Such news prompted my memory. I'm in my late 50's, but I vividly remember attending a church service during my childhood where the pastor stated that "in the last days the oceans will become like cesspits".

I might only have the Starter edition of Logos, but I cannot find any indication that would suggest that the above statement has any biblical basis.

Try Jeremiah 14:3 - is isn't oceans, but there is no fresh water. Do a search for "cistern" in the book of Jeremiah and you will find verses about Jeremiah being thrown into a dry cistern, with nothing but muck in it. Perhaps this metaphor was the impetus for the sermon you heard.

I think the pastor was using the word "cesspits" to describe what he read in Bible, and not directly quoting the Bible. A verse he could have been looking at (a "last days" verse) would be:

3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. (Revelation 16:3)

An ocean full of blood and the dead would certainly be like a cesspit.

I think you nailed it. Have tried to figure what the match could be. I went in the direction of Yam, or possibly Hinnom, not good match.
