Responsive Readings Suggestions
Hi all. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions about resources that contain responsive readings for congregational worship. I know I could create my own, but I would like to see if anything is already out there. Many hymnals sometimes have them in the back and I have a Bible that has some. Any Logos resources that you are aware of? Thanks for the help!

I did not see any Logos resource that had any. However, if you search the internet for responsive readings there are are many suggestions.

Vasholz, Robert I. Calls to Worship. Geanies House, Scotland: Christian Focus Publications, 2008.
Filtering my library for responsive only finds Calls to Worship (so currently have one resource with Responsive Worship subject).
Modified search to include some results in Calls to Worship (took 5 minutes for Library results to appear for me):
(Leader,Pastor,Priest) BEFORE 77 WORDS (Choir,Congregation,People) BEFORE 4 WORDS (Amen,Lord,pray)
Expanded search to include more results in Calls to Worship:

Thanks again, Keep Smiling. Can you tell me how/why your search string includes "BEFORE 77 WORDS" and "BEFORE 4 WORDS"? How/why did you come up with that? I understand how the search strings work, but just curious why 77 and 4. Thanks!

77 is a guess for word range limit between a leader and response. Earlier search in this thread had 88, but results were not being displayed so reduced range a bit. Feast of Tabernacles has 7 days along with 7 & 8 being numbers of perfection (so doubled the numbers for searching word range).
Screen shot shows one result where Congregation precedes Lord by 4 words. Earlier search had range of 3 words for response example.

Books such as The Abingdon Preaching Annual often include responsorial readings for each Sunday. Also look for titles that imply worship planning.

Thanks, MJ. I have several of Nelson's Annual Preacher's Sourcebooks
but they do not seem to have responsive readings. I may try Abingdon and see how I like them. I'll see what else Faithlife may have out there for worship planning too.0 -
I occasionally have created my own using the "Copy Bible Verses" tool within LOGOS. One of the built in options is "Responsive Reading". It takes a bit of editing:
- Adding "PEOPLE" and "PASTOR" to every other entry.
- Bolding the lines to be spoken by the congregation.
- Changing indents so prompts stand out on the left Margin with the spoken text to the right.
- Adding a title to the top of the page.
- Because my audience consists of senior citizens, I enlarge the typeface to 16 or 18 point.

The other source I have found is Google Books. A search for "Google Books Responsive Reading" will return several possibilities. Some of these are old enough that they are no longer in copyright and can be freely used. These tend to be photocopied (i.e. PDF) books and take a bit more work to create a useable version for congregational use.

Hi Floyd. Thanks for your responses. When I go to the Copy Bible Verses tool I do not see an option for Responsive Readings. You said it is a "built in" option. If that is true, I am not sure why I would not see it. I can create new layouts. Is that what you meant?

I am not sure why you are not seeing this option. It is in the fourth line of styles down.
I have modified some of the existing ones, but doubt that I would have felt competent enough to create this one. Here is the "Style" that is used to create the responsive reading layout:

Hmm... Interesting. I only have three rows of options.
First row: Fully Formatted, One Verse Per Line, One Verse Per Line (Full Reference), Quotation
Second row: Simple Paragraphs, Bible Text Only, Oration:One Paragraph, Oration:One Verse Per Line
Third Row: Bible Paragraphs, Fully Formatted with Footnotes, Observation Worksheet
I am running Logos 7.12 SR-1.
Thanks for the formatting code by the way. At least that will allow me to create the layout manually.

KS4J - it seems to me that your search would find almost all liturgical services as they also have the leader/congregant back and forth but not in a responsive reading sense. I'll mull over how to easily eliminate them.
