Logos spending over time

I thought new users ought to be warned about what Logos does to your bank balance Wink Here's the true picture of my Logos spending in the last ten years (exponential is the word, I think!). This does not bode well for the future! <edit>In case it's not clear, the graph shows cumulative spend.</edit>

Do you use the resources enough to justify the shape you posted here?

For me, I've tagged the NEW ones since my package upgrade, to see if I am going to try and use the add-ons, or just collect them [:)]

Yikes! I am afraid to work out what my spending chart looks like. I think I'm in denial. I'm kind of glad Logos doesn't provide a sum totat at the bottom of the Order History page. Also, it only goes back to 2001, which isn't accurate, because I had spent some (relatively miniscule) amount on versions of Logos before that -- I think. Unless those were all the freebies Bob gave me. [:)]

Yes, the crucial question! In fairness, most of the recent spend has been 'upgrading' to Logos editions of paper-books that I already owned (NICOT/NICNT, Tyndale, BST, NIBC, Calvin, Zondervan, etc.), so I know I'll use those - and I've raised over $1,000 in selling off the paper versions. I actually think my spending will slow down soon, as there just are fewer and fewer good books that aren't in Logos.

Interesting. Mine is going the opposite direction. If all the Logos products were "community priced", I would be buying a lot more. As it is, I have to look to less expensive alternatives; sometimes notes taken from paper books that are put into HTML format and imported with Personal Book Builder (Logos 3).

Actually, mine's not as bad (trend-wise, anyway) as I'd thought. I don't know if you can see it, but there was that tiny blip back in Jan 01. Then I pretty much ignored Logos for six years, I'm embarrassed to say. Then that huge blip in Jul 07 is when I upgraded to Scholars Gold and bought a whole slew of other resources. That seems to have kept me satisfied, for the most part, for quite a while. But then Logos 4 shipped and I was doomed. In Dec 09, I upgraded to Portfolio. And that did not keep me satisfied for a while... Uh oh! Now I hear about them preparing to ship 5000 books a year?! Arrggggggghhh!!

Mark, I don't know how you managed to have such a smooth curve. Are you sure that doesn't represent cumulative spending?

Yes, sorry for not making that clear. If your spending isn't regular ($x per month) then a cumulative graph is the only one that can be easily visually interpreted.

I just put them on Amazon and priced to compete with others selling on Amazon. You can get better return using other methods, but they sell quickly on Amazon if well-priced.

Hum. Not why, but how? How did you get all your books into an HTML file, with embedded links to libronixdls? It must be automated! I don't even know how to get a bibliographic listing saved out with Logos 4.

A suggestion: put a count of the books at the top of your page, and maybe a warning about page load time. You have got a lot of books!

It's automated and a feature of my bibliographic report (see the other link in my signature). You can produce you're own by following that link and the instructions there. Thanks for the suggestion, too.

Alternatively, you can run bibliographic reports from Logos by creating a collection of all your resources (use the string rating:>=0) and using the export command on the Collections drop-down menu.

Yes, sorry for not making that clear. If your spending isn't regular ($x per month) then a cumulative graph is the only one that can be easily visually interpreted.

OK, it took a bit of tweaking -- I'm not that familiar with charts in Excel -- but I got it to work finally (trendline was the tricky part; you've got to add it first before changing the chart type to "area" because area charts do not normally allow trendlines -- that button was greyed out; not sure why they don't allow it when they seem to work fine if you put them in while it's still a bar chart).

And yikes. It does look like I'm on a collision course towards bankruptcy...
