Highlighting disappeared

I love the precepts way of marking the text as I  read through  the Bible. We have Logos 7.13 installed right now. I have been marking away since January in the NKJV and loving it. Suddenly this week, everything I have marked before is gone and now when I try to highlight nothing shows up as highlighted at all. I did notice that an update was made to the NKJV and I am wondering if this caused this problem or if it is another problem all together. I am hoping someone can help me fix it.

Thank you,

Suzi Ciliberti

Welcome to the forums Mark. Sorry you are having troubles. Is it possible that highlighting has been turned off in visual filters?

    Welcome Suzi!

If Bruce’s excellent tip doesn’t work, can you verify if the actual notes are missing from the notes document? Do you know which document was used to store the highlights?

If the notes are there and if the document is turned on but still no highlights are showing, there is a command we can dig up.

Thank you to you both for replying to me. I have been in a very intensive mission's conference so I did try your idea of turning on highlights but wasn't free to respond till today. The highlights were turned on but the individual highlights weren't clicked so I did click them. The highlights came back for that day but then disappeared again the next day. I checked and they were all still clicked on so I was discouraged. then next day they were back but disappeared again and I haven't been able to get them back since. I clicked on my NKJV button to see if there was something under there. It shows the book chapters etc.; but now it won't go away and I really don't like it open all the time. It just seems like my display has gone a little crazy on me. I love Logos and have enjoined so many months of wonderful reading and highlighting. I do hope I can get it all back to normal. JT maybe I need you to help. I really don't know any things about the documents. I do my highlighting though in NKJV and Mark does his in the NASB. Is that what you meant by document?

I really don't know any things about the documents.

A "highlight" in Logos is actually a note with a visual filter applied to it. Notes are stored in note documents. For many users, this is all "behind the scenes" stuff since the user simply wants to highlight something and doesn't really view the highlight as a note. Nevertheless, when a user creates a highlight, a note is created in a note document. This is vitally important to know because if you delete the note (or note document), the highlight is deleted as well.

The default behavior is for the highlight to go into a note document named for the highlighter pallet. For example, if you were to use one of the "Emphasis Markup" style highlighters, your highlight notes would go into a note document named "Emphasis Markup." Personally, I find the default setting to be a disservice to most users. As such, I have changed my setting so that highlights go into a note document named for the resource. If I were to create a highlight in the book "Celebration of Discipline," the highlight goes into a note document named "Celebration of Discipline."

I do my highlighting though in NKJV and Mark does his in the NASB. Is that what you meant by document?

The licensing agreement for Logos is designed for "one user," although Bob has defined "one user" to include a husband and wife. Nevertheless, it is still designed for "one user." Is it possible that Mark changed settings on his computer (which would change them on yours as well)?

Well, I guess I am in the default document but I use highlights from all the sections under highlight, the solid colors, the emphasis mark up, the my annotations, the questions, etc.

I don't think I have deleted any documents. And it did come back a couple of times so that gives me hope.

...which is why I think it is a disservice to have the default set the way that it is. Additionally, using the default setting facilitates larger note documents. The mobile apps sometimes have trouble with those. "Resource specific" note documents is better for most users, most of the time. If it had been set up this way for you, for example, you would only have one note document box which needed to be checked, rather than 5+ you mentioned above.

I don't think I have deleted any documents.

Yes, but remember it could always be your husband as well. Or if he didn't delete them, he could have simply turned them off on his computer. Doing so will turn them off on your computer as well.

He didn't delete them. I thought maybe you did something to find them because when I went back in for the 4th time this morning... they are there again this time. It is all confusing. I just hope they don't disappear again. sigh. Thanks though for trying to help me.

If they keep disappearing, there may be some other trouble. If you want, we could try to trouble shoot that. It would be best to start with Logs (see my signature line). Also, it would be good to know how large your note documents are. If you were to pretend to print them, how many pages would they be (dont actually print them!)?

Well, because of your question and something my husband said to me. I got an idea. I have been in a hurry this week because I wanted had to be at work early for this conference. I didn't have much time for my Bible Reading. I kept opening and closing Logos this morning trying to see if that would resolve the problem. The last time I opened it, I had to go do an errand and when I came back my highlights were there. So after reading your last note and remembering what my husband said about stuff loading in the background, I thought maybe I am just not waiting long enough. So I opened Logos and sure enough there were no highlights. I did some chores and came back to check and sure enough they are here now. I think with all the highlighting I am doing it just takes a bit of time for them all to load and then appear. If they keep showing up after I wait that will prove me correct. If not, you will hear from me again as I will need some help to find the problem. I do appreciate you teaching me about turning things on and off and about where things are stored. It has been most insightful! Thanks to you, Dave' and Bruce for your helpful comments and kindness to respond so quickly and with great insights.

    Blessings,

    Suzi

I recommend that you use the command update note attachments in the command box at the top of the main window. This will update your notes so that it should take much less time for them to show up in your resources. You will need to have the application running online, and it will take a bit of time for the operation to complete. You will see a progress indicator in the blue notification icon at the top of the main window while this is running.

I am having a similar problem and have searched the forums for answers to no avail.

I cannot get highlights to sync across devices. I make the "note" in the logos app on my macbook but they won't transfer to ipad or iphone.

Like Suzi, I love using these markups but would like to solve the sync issue.

Saw a post that said I need to hit a sync button in the upper right of the mac app. Don't see that.

I've been to https://documents.logos.com/ and I cannot find the recent highlights I've made.

    For example, I highlighted psalm 80 v.1,12 & 13 and I do not see these at documents.logos.com

I have restarted all apps. I have hit the home button.

    What am I missing.  Thanks!

Hi Chuck - and welcome to the forums

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

However the issue you are describing is different to the one being discussed in this thread so please start a new thread in this forum and provide as many details as possible.

I've been to https://documents.logos.com/ and I cannot find the recent highlights I've made.

This suggests the problem is from mac to Logos "cloud servers" and so we need to focus on that

    For example, I highlighted psalm 80 v.1,12 & 13 and I do not see these at documents.logos.com

In the thread I am suggesting you create please provide as many details as possible about the steps you are taking to do this
