mytag: section not displaying all tagged resources

Hello,

I created a custom passage guide in Logos 4 (latest updated version). One of my "sections" in the guide is grouped as "mytag:Scholarly Commentary". I have a few books with that exact tag that aren't showing up when I run the guide - some of which have entire chapters devoted to the passage I'm researching - labeled with the exact same pericope range (Isaiah 6:1-13, in this case).

When I realized the problem, I had Logos run a full index and then tried to run the guide again. Same results. Any ideas?

You'll need quotes around the tag. Currently the collection will be searching for the tag 'scholarly', and the word 'commentary' in the title/description/publisher.

Hey Mark,

Are you suggesting using quotation marks as I'm tagging the book? When I edit the guide template, I insert either the "commentary" or "collections" section (I've used both), and both ask me to narrow down what collection I'm asking for. At this point, I scroll down to (mytag:Scholarly Commentary) - I can't edit any of this text in this section.

I ask this because I have another section of the same guide that is a collection of (mytag:Reformed Works) and it gives me everything just fine.

I think Mark was thinking of the selection criteria which would be mytag:"Scholarly Commentary" - Why do I think that? Simply because I also misunderstood what you were asking. Go the Collections and make a test collection based on the rule mytag:"Scholarly Commentary" and see if it includes all the books you expect. If it does, document and report as a bug. If it does not, check the tags on the missing resources for extra spaces, differences in capitalization etc.

I made the test collection under the Collections tool, as you mentioned, and it did give me some of the additional books that I was looking for.

I edited the guide template to have both of these sections: (Commentaries, mytag:Scholarly Commentary) and (Collections, mytag:Scholarly Commentary) and they both came up with vastly different results. The Collections version had many of the additional books that I tagged. I guess tagging something as a commentary doesn't mean it's going to appear in a commentary section...

Strangely, there was one book I was having lots of difficulty with (Magnifying The Holiness Of Our God, if it matters). I opened the book and went to the chapter heading for Isaiah 6:1-13 (the passage that started this whole thing). I did a search within the book for "Isaiah 6:1-13", no quotes, and it didn't find anything. Maybe I need to report that one as a bug?

Based on my italicized comment two paragraphs up, I'll just have to play around and see what setup will work best for me. Thanks for your help, everybody!

The Commentaries and Collections section are indeed designed differently. The commentaries section will return links to commentaries only (ignoring other resources in the collection), as it gives links to the sections in each commentary that refer to the verse (returning only one result per commentary). On the other hand the collections section returns links to any resource, as it gives links to any references to that verse throughout the resource (potentially returning multiple results per resource).

If the search for Isaiah 6:1-13 didn't return results, it might be because an em-dash (–) or en-dash (—) are used instead of a hyphen (-). I don't have the resource to check, sorry. You would do much better to search for <bible Isaiah 6:1-13> if you want to find all references to that passage within a resource or collection.

I see exactly what you are talking about in how Commentaries and Collections are done differently. I think I found a way to make this work (I'm responding with this just in case the info can help somebody else) since I have a bunch of things tagged as Scholarly Commentary, while some are type Commentary and some are not.

I'm making a new collection that reads like this "mytag:Scholarly Commentary ANDNOT type:commentary"

THIS gives me everything tagged that wouldn't appear in the commentary section, but also allows me to organize by book (instead of by "ranked"), which makes the results a lot easier to wade through.

I guess the dynamic collections, side by side with that Boolean logic stuff, will be more helpful than I originally thought.

Brian, you're still putting the quotations marks in the wrong place. Even setting aside the point that you might have merely been quoting to us what you wrote in the collection rule (so I'll ignore the outer quotation marks for now, which shouldn't be there in your rule), you need to have quotation marks around the phrase that you've used as your tag in order for it to filter correctly. So your rule should look like this:

mytag:"Scholarly Commentary" ANDNOT type:commentary
