iPad test a success

While in New York last week my wife bought me an iPad at the 5th avenue Apple store as she knew I wanted one but couldn't decide if I really needed it. One thing I was wrestling with was if it could be used for something productive and not just for entertainment. One of the first apps I bought was Pages for the iPad so I could see if I could take my sermon notes and outlines created in Pages on my iMac and export them to the iPad for use while preaching and teaching. I am happy to report that the result was a complete success and worked fantastically. The integration between both Pages versions was great and the ability to move through my notes/outline was a breeze. I have been more than happy with my iPad so far and think it is going to be a game changing product which is nothing new for Apple. I can't thank my wife enough for this gift, she's the greatest.

That's really good to hear Dennis. My wife bought me one as a graduation present (I graduate next week from EKU with a B.B.A and a CIS major). I don't have it yet. It's on the way though and I'm really looking forward to trying it out for the Wednesday night Bible class. I've been using my iTouch for quite a while now but I'm expecting better results with a bigger screen. My 45ish-year-old eyes aren't as good as they used to be and sometimes the small screen is tough. Anyway, God bless you and your new gadget as you use it to get to know Him better.

And here is how I am getting my documents on the iPad instead of the ridiculous syncing via itunes method that is the official way for iPad.

Essentially the article says use Sugar Sync and the sugar sync app on the iPad which has the option to open in Pages once you get the file on the iPad. Sugar Sync automatically syncs all files in a specific folder. So you save the file to that folder and it will upload it for you.

Been using Pages and ipad for preaching for three weeks now. GREAT!

Kevin, I ordered the 64 gig with 3G the other day. Will the iPad app look to the SD card for the books first? Is it feasible to download the Logos resources to the iPad so you can access when no Internet connection is available? Just second guessing my decision to go to an Apple product!!!

May I also suggest that you try Goodreader App. It has access to your IDisk when you are connected to wifi. I keep a copy of all my files on my iDisk and just download it when I need to preach. Goodreader downloads it and keeps it on the iPad. God bless.

SD Card? Is this something new with the 3G model?

I don't really have any issues using itunes, I buy most of my music through it anymore and manage my iPod, iPhone, and iPad content with it. Works well for me.

I do have Goodreader also and will give a try with the iDisk. Thanks for all the ideas.

Wow, using the iPad while preaching and teaching, that's just awesome. I attempting to use that logic with my husband in hopes of obtaining a significant contribution to my iPad fund, but to no avail. Now that I have your post, I'll send it to him so he'll see I wasn't just pulling a reason out of a hat! I hope you continue enjoying your iPad and I hope to be joining the ranks of iPad owners soon! I've whined so much on the forum boards, I'm sure somebody is ready to send a contribution to my fund just to get me to contribute towards another subject!

None of the the iPads have SD built in. There is an SD card dongle but it won't have anything to do with the Logos app.
