If you really need a bible on your iPad....

and you don't want to wait until the off-line mode becomes reliable. The ESV and KJV are both available for free under iBooks.

I trusted my offline mode this weekend, and it let me down. Thankfully I had my MiFi so I wasn't left in too much of a lurch. I was going to re-install Olive Tree, but I didn't care about search functions, just having a full bible available. So the I downloaded the ESV to iBooks and I won't have to worry about it from now on.

I had already done the same . . . but all the while wondering why I can't simply read my Bibles offline with my "Bible study" software.

Don't get me wrong, I love using my iPad as a book reader and having all these wonderful books available from my Logos 4 library. I am just disappointed that I can't read an actual Bible offline.

I downloaded the ESV HD App and it's great for casual reading. I tried their search function but it was not that accurate. I ended up with a boatload of references and the search word wasn't even highlighted. But really great for reading - for people attending church, they can bring their IPad instead of their Bible.

What do you mean by this? You can have both the ESV and the KJV and many other Bibles offline in the Logos app. Just go to the Library and find the bible you want or any other book and if it is there then tap on the little arrow key and tap the sliding switch so that it turns blue. Wait for it to download and it is available offline.

Nope. Even though my Bibles are downloaded to my iPad for use offline they disappear when I try to use them offline. They are not listed in my library when offline and when I try to open them from my "recent books" listing I get an error message.

This is not typical. I am not able to produce the result.

Have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling it? And before doing that have you tried restarting your ipad. I have noticed that the iPhone OS 3.2 that runs the iPad is more susceptible to this kind of thing and needs to be restarted after new app installation more often than before.

This is partner to another thread Kevin, where I relied on the on-line mode and took my iPad into the pulpit where it seems the online mode stopped working. All the bibles still had the little airplane icon, yet everytime I tried to load them Logos came back with the error that the book could not be loaded. Yes, I was logged in [:D] it was a problem with the the off line mode of Logos. Fortunately I had my MiFi with me and simply turned it on, then preached my sermon.

So, my comment stands, if you need to be sure you actually have a bible on your iPad, download the ESV to iBook. At least until offline mode become reliable. BTW, I cured my issue by logging out of Logos, which removed all of my downloaded content and re-downloading it.

I seem to have resolved this by completely uninstalling the app and reinstalling.
