Is there a shortcut to close all open tabs ?
Type "Close All" in the command box.
You can also highlight and drag this command from the command box to your shortcut bar to the right of the command box. This will create an icon to click that will close all without having to type it every time.
yes, what Praiser said, and this: right click on a tab for several intermediate options as well as "close all tabs."
I'm even lazier. [:$] I saved a blank layout as "Blank", and then dragged it from the saved workspaces to the Shortcuts Bar. One click on the shortcut icon for "Blank" and the workspace is cleared out. [;)]

I am lazier still - I have placed a shortcut to the Close All command on the shortcut bar - a single click, and it is all gone. [:D]

Interestingly (well, perhaps - [;)] ), the Close All command shortcut works slightly differently from how the saved Blank saved layout shortcut works -
If I open, say, a couple of resources, and click the Blank shortcut twice, the first click closes the resource panes, restoring the "newspaper", while the second click also clears the "newspaper".
If I open the same couple of resources, and click the Close All shortcut twice, the first click closes the resource panes, restoring the "newspaper", while the second click seems to have no effect (i.e., it does not close the "newspaper").
The above difference ~might~ depend upon how the "Blank" (or whatever else it may have been called) layout was saved in the first place.

I believe this is true only if you have selected "Show Home Page at Startup". My Close All button leaves a blank screen.
Yep - this is the way I also have it set up. If I want to occasionally see the homepage, I can click the home page button to bring it to the forefront. Another click, brings back whatever page was up before viewing the homepage.
