BUG: 4.0cB7: Can't turn off RED LETTER style in a NOTES File

OK, I noticed Jesus talking about taking up our cross in Mark 8:34, which is a long time before the crucifixion, so I think I want to come back and study this. What was Jesus saying here?

So, I paste the verse into a new Note, and then went to add a comment right after. The RED LETTER style is continued into my own comments.

Can I turn the RED style off?

Why did the paste not also add a closing RED LETTER style-code at the end of the copy, and leave me in normal black text?

It looks like you copied this verse with the Copy Bible Verses tool. If that is your preferred method, simply change the format. Click where it says "fully formatted" and change your preferred format.

The screen shot illustrates different methods to copy text into a note file or into a Word or other document.

Can I turn the RED style off?

The easiest way would probably be to copy/paste some black text from further up, and drop it at the end of the section.

No, I did not use the CBV tool as such. Just right-click, reference, COPY. Maybe it does CBV under the hood, so I don't know if it uses the CBV styles. Even if it did, its OK that it takes the Red Letter style into the copy. But it should close the red style I think.

Yes, I had considered that as a work-around before I posted, but it seems to me that the copy should place a <RED OFF> style at the end and just take care of it for me. It does not matter so much if I paste into Word etc, as I have full control in the editor, but for Notes, we have few controls, so the copy/paste has to take care of it for us.

I assume you are aware of the global option:

Beyond that you need to use CBV to have any control over the output. Within the paste document, you need to use select and font>color to reset the color.

I want the red style to END at the end of the copy/pasted portion.

Even if I can turn it off in settings or with a style in CBV, that does not address the BUG or user-interface issue I am reporting here. I believe the copy-to-clipboard needs to include the <red off> style as part of what is placed on the Windows Clipboard.

Microsoft Word handles this "error" OK, because it jumped back to the default style for the document, after the pasted portion. Logos4 Notes does NOT, and leaves the style at whatever was pasted. The problem is the source copy-to-clipboard.

Again, quite true. However, the standard MS copy & paste (CTNL V/C) does.

OK - Logos is pasting the correct <Red Off> into the Windows Clipboard, for the RTF version of the source material. In this case, its the } that closes the matching {\cf1 that starts the Red Letter section in this verse.

If the closing } is followed by additional text, as per BLACK in my graphic, then the Logos4.0cB7 Notes is rendering the BLACK as black text. Additional typing after the paste to Notes is in black.

In the case of the first of the two portions in my graphic below, Notes is NOT setting Red Letter off for any additional text a user might type, as per my top post here, and the subject of this bug report.

I hope this additional information is useful. Not wanting to teach the Logos programmers how to suck eggs, but wanting to help you find the area of attention quicker.

More testing ...

Even a single space between the two } characters, where BLACK is in the 2nd example, is enough for Notes to disable Red Letter. Anything typed after that is in standard black again.

So, in the example, the paste works as expected if the RTF ends with:

If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. } }\par }

I'll report this to development.

If you choose 'Selection > Copy', it will copy it all in black text. The red text will come over when choosing 'Reference > Copy Mark 8:34'.

[ Yes - I had noticed that "selection - copy" does a very different kind of copy, and without the red. But I like red on, if the source has it red. ]
