Not able to update to RC1

More to report.

I decided to close Logos 4 and reopen it.

On doing this I got an error message saying that the Indexer had crashed and it was searching for a solution.

After a bit Logos closed.

No Logos4 crash report was generated, but there was one for the Indexer. It reported a malformed database:

Error ID: 1647
Error detail: SQLiteException: The database disk image is malformed
database disk image is malformed

I decided to try again, and clicked in the Logos 4 icon.

The first screen that opened stated an update was available, would I like to install it? Yes I would.

It went through the installation, the Logos splash screen came up and shortly thereafter the same Indexer has crashed looking for a solution screen appeared.

This time, however, Logos 4 finished opening. I am now sporting the following version: 4.0c (4.03.3.9288) which I must assume is the RC-1.

I decided to test the index by searching all my resources for the word 'god.' It told me some search results might be missing or incomplete while my Library was being indexed (which it isn't, BTW), and under 'New Resources' the search came up with results in ten 'new resources' including the NLT (I don't have time to let it load the other nine 'new' volumes in the search results window and page through them to see what they are, as I expect quite a few pages of results from the NLT for that search word.) I did have lots of other hits in about 2900 resources under 'Library Results.' This indicates to me that whatever is malformed is not my whole index.

So I have the RC-1 installed (I believe), but have some index issues.

What say ye? Should I 'Rebuild Index' since nothing is happening at this point?

They used to post a link back to the forum announcement from the wiki whenever they put out a new release, but now that all the release notes are stored right there in the wiki, they don't do that anymore. So it makes it harder to find these announcement posts. [:(]

This generally indicates a corrupt resource. Do you have the Logos4Indexer.log for this crash?

I "upgraded" from the last beta to this one by use of the link posted.

I guess I should have tried to open the program and do 'Update Now" because this way is NOT working!

Logos claims that L4 RC etc is running but only has a MemUsage of 89072 (never changes and is way to low a number--it is usally into the many hundreds of thousands).

[EDIT - it is now up to 89228 - BUT the Logos Indexer is NOT running , only the Logos4.exe]

If it is running it is "invisible."

windows task manager activity is almost negligible.

I tried to re-install the latest "downloader" but it claims it is up to date. I also re-booted (to apparently no effect.

THERE NEVER WAS ANYTHING IN MY "TRAY" No little blue icon etc.

There is an indication on the Tool Bar that it should be visible etc ie. choices there to minimize or close etc.

Except that there is nothing there to minimize or to close!

I also know that there should also be 3 resources downloading for a pre-pub which landed earlier today--are they working at cross purposes?

Your software is up-to-date. Version 4.0c RC 1 (4.03.3.9288) was installed today according to your logs. The last time the indexer ran, with logging enabled that is, was April 30. If the program doesn't appear to be open (if I'm understanding your problem report correctly), restart your computer and try opening L4 again.

If you still don't have the new resources, try restarting Logos.

Yes, that was this past Friday when I was finishing up my sermon prep.

I have now done this [both re-booted the machine and re-started Logos] 2-3 times with no differing results: The program is listed as running in Task Manager and its name appears in my "bar' at the bottom of the screen.But there is "nothin" on the screen. Each time i have tried to re-start the splash screen appeared for a few seconds and then disappeared. I had that happen a couple of betas ago and forget what I had to do. (It may have involved removing some database(s)?)

But the memory numbers in the Task Manager are not enough to even run this program. They say 86,684.when usually they are 200,000 -400,000 and sometimes run off the chart and freeze up the machine. [In light of that, 86,000 is not enough to "run" anything.]

Again, like the last reboot, There is no indexer running.

(until the actual program makes an appearance I can do nothing about new resources etc)

Right click on the Logos 4 shortcut, choose Properties, and click on Shortcut. Check the Target path. Is that the correct path to your current user account folder?

Yes I do and it is attached. I have been working on this but haven't reported more since what is going on hasn't finished yet.

After reporting all of the above I closed and reopened Logos 4 this morning. No indexer crash report, although I got a tray icon saying indexing was going on. Logos opened just fine.

I then ran the same search reported above and got 25 resources reporting hits in the 'New resources' section of the report. That section also gave me the option to merge indexes. I clicked on that and it is underway as we speak, so I should have a final report in just 81 hours ([;)]).

So far I have not deleted an index file nor rebuilt the index. We'll have to see what results.

The attachment was of the crash text, not the log. Since your Logos4Indexer.log is no doubt in use, we'll wait to see how it finishes.

Yes, & I had even earlier re-done the shortcut to make sure.

The splash screen stays up for about 20 seconds(?)

And it never gets to the point of starting the Indexer.

I also checked on the Prerequisites (ie. "repair" in control panel, but that solved nothing, either.

...so I'm looking for some more suggestions...

Basically, Beta 7 worked fine on Friday or Saturday?.

It has NOT been open since.

Then today (Wednesday) I saw on the Forum that there was a new release. I did not open the L4. Instead I attempted to upgrade to 4.0c RC1 by use of the "link" - Since then L4 has not re-opened (ie since I had it open on Friday-Saturday etc).

I tried deleting My Prerequisites and re-using the download link to do a "repair". It replaced the executable. BUT Same "sad" results. Does not open. Even though it claims to be running (somewhere).

Save for a total re-install, I've no more ideas. (Yes, I have a back up from 12 weeks ago).

Must go over to Bible study now.

I recommend calling Customer Support at 800-875-6467. They're available Mon-Fri from 6am to 5pm Pacific time. One of our techs should be able to get you back up and running.

Thanks but I'm just going to re-install.

I'll have it all re-indexed before they make it back into work.

But something in that installer did not like my setup.
