I use to be able to run 2 separate versions of Libronix at one time- is it possible to do this with L7- for myself I used it all the time due to the fact of so many resources with additional referenced works.

I know that you can run Logos on multiple monitors and that you can run Verbum and Logos at the same time.

I think the modern equivalent would be opening a resource in a new window, and then dragging things into the new window to populate it like you would a second instance of Logos.

Many of those who beta test run multiple versions - I often have 3 versions loaded Logos, Verbum & Beta. If the name is the same, run them under different user accounts on your computer.

You could use the same installation in different Windows user accounts, and you could share resources.  Logos 7 is different as you have to install it in each user account and it is not possible to share resources.

If you want to run two installations in the one user account, install Verbum as well as Logos.

If your goal is to have one installation with less resources, I'm not sure you'll be able to make it work. I installed Verbum on my Windows tablet and started hiding resources...only to find they were hidden on the big machines running Logos as well. Logos and Verbum cross talk.

I'm curious, what are you trying to accomplish by being able to run the application twice? I'm having a hard time thinking of a use for this.

I have numerous studies going and have found that there are so many referenced works, that at times I wonder why one author quotes another when they seem, well not to support or it seems to say what the other is not saying. So I add it to my study- but wanted to have it in another study open that I could add these to and spend time reading the full spectrum of the other author without having to open and close other resources in the original, I can just leave them in another saved layout referenced to the original.

Yes. I tried to make that point above. Changes to the Verbum Library will be mirrored in Logos. The Guru's can tell us if there is a case where that is not true. I can't think of one.

Only way to stop that syncing, is to uncheck "use internet" in the Verbum installation. The problem is ....Now you get no resource or software updates..Any purchases you make after The isolationism.will not be downloaded. Worse yet: If we inadvertently recheck that box....even for a few minutes. Verbum will communicate with the mother ship and attempt to make the 2 installations twins. You can hide a multitude of resources with one click, but they must be be unhidden individually. Hide ... make changes  at your own peril.

I thought that would be the case- so I installed Verbum on my 4T storage drive- if they sync space is not an issue- I do have a 4T drive on my PC but like to keep space and memory usage at a min. where possible till I build a new system.

  • ... quick question are they going to sync with each other?

Default configuration of Use Internet being enabled allows more than one installation to sync with other(s).

Having two (or more) installations allows more than one Library and Collection to be open (once in each installation), which can be useful for revising collection(s) and resource tagging.

Personally remember having two installations with Library Prioritize open in both, which had sync surprises while changing priority order. Learned to use one Library for Priority changes with Prioritize closed in other installation(s) (OK for Library to be open)

Resource updates downloaded into Logos can be copied to "offline" Verbum installation using scan command in Verbum (scan Logos Resources folder). Technique is useful for maintaining more than one installation: download into one installation followed by scanning in the other(s). Logos wiki has => Quick Installation onto multiple computers and => Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs (with scan command examples).

Stable software update can manually be done using installation link => https://www.logos.com/install (with application and indexer not running)

Thanks for that info. A very innovative work around.

I am glad I displayed my ignorance, so you could enlighten us.

  • Thankful for many friendly forum and Faithlife discussions: have learned a lot plus have a lot to learn.

When had slower internet in a different house, was Thankful for scan command so could download resources once followed by updating several personal installations (helpful for beta testing and comparing/contrasting Windows/Mac).
