Does anyone have The Jewish Encyclopedia?
The Jewish Encyclopedia is on of the free classic books this month. Does anyone have it? Can anyone recommend it? I'm interested but I sure wish there was a way to thumb through it before purchasing.

It’s one from the range of free Classics available to Faithlife Connect users (Essentials and up).
I bought very recently in the Jewish Topical Bundles - I was working my way up through the bundles till I could afford it. Feel a bit silly about that now. But it’s good to have it.

I have it, and it's good as long as you understand it's short comings. It is written primarily from the perspective of Rabbinic Judaism, without taking into account other perspectives within the plurality that is "Judaism" today. Many of the articles are antiques, and badly need updating. Having said that, Rabbinic Judaism tends to be very, very conservative anyway. So, the very idea of "updating" something within Rabbinic Judaism is perhaps a bit of an oxymoron.
I would caution anyone who tries to use it to understand first century Judaism. It is woefully inadequate for that, and fraught with methodological problems.

Can someone post a product link for The Jewish Encyclopedia referred to here? The only related resource I'm finding is a multi-volume work and doesn't seem to be part of the list of free classics.

Yes, that’s the one and it does appear on the list

Thanks Graham! Interesting that it appears on that list but on the Logos.com product page it's not tagged as being eligible as a free classic. I haven't been using your list (i.e. the one from ebooks.faithlife.com); I'll have to start checking it out from now on.

I have used the 12 volume classic work and find it a fine (albeit slightly dated) work. It is quite comprehensive and offers a lot of good information. That said I use is in conjunction with The Encyclopedia of Judaism, which is more up-to-date but less comprehensive. If you have an interest in Jewish studies it is really quite useful.

I was expecting it to be split into separate volumes for the free book but no, I have just just downloaded it as my free classic for this month. It may not be perfect and may not be up to date but is excellent for the price!

It is a very good resource to pick. I paid $50 for it when it came out of community pricing in 2013, and was happy to get it for that price.

I always sort the free book list from Highest Price to Lowest and check to see if there are any bargains. Next I look for new additions. Then I move on the my wish list for my free nook. I was really surprised to see the Jewish Encyclopedia on the list as I don't remember seeing anything that expensive before.
