I couldn't agree less.
The iPad is "different" functional, not "less" functional. It is certainly the most personal, immersive, interactive experience available today. It also provides a unique method for interaction that I am finding more and more productive as I use it. The device itself is considerably faster than any netbook I have used or seen, and the touch interface is more effective than the typical keyboard/mouse or even tablet interfaces. And at 1.5 pounds, it packs a lot into that configuration.
It surprised me that I type nearly as effectively on it as I do on a desktop keyboard (60wpm on the iPad, 70wpm on a desktop). As I learn to trust the autocorrect, I actually type even faster.
I started with the least expensive WiFi model and have now upgraded to the 32GB 3G model. I use it more than my desktop or laptop already. As the app developers begin to understand the unique characteristics that their applications can have on the device, those applications will become even more compelling. The WSJ is a good example for reading information somewhat similar to the Logos model.
So, again, if you view it as "another computer," you'll miss the reality. It's not. It's different. It's a personal choice. For me, it's become my primary interactive device, and I've been using a lot of different devices since I lugged home my first "portable" computer in 1986.

Steve, I know we will have to agree to disagree on this point, I appreciate its like comparing chalk/cheese
Value for money? You must be joking, we in the UK are being ripped off.. ...here in the UK, your 32GB which you paid (apple list $599.00) would cost approx $740, maybe a good deal there in the states, but if it cost you in reality an extra 25% (like we will have to) would you still have bought it??

Actually, I paid the $729 for the 32GB 3G model, but I get your point.
That said, I wouldn't buy a netbook at any price, so there's a key difference between us, too. [;)] It just doesn't do what I require.

I couldn't agree more. It doesn't have the same functionality as my desktop or laptop computers but it is more "immersive." I like that word for the iPad.
