Standard Lesson Commentary Installation

I just received my new 2010-2011 Standard Lesson Commentary publication with the eCommentary CD. The CD wants to load the old libronix system. How do I get it to load into Logos 4?

I had this problem last year and was talked throught the process over the phone. I would like the instructions so that I can do this without having to call customer support and take time away for other users having more serious problems.

Logos 4 is not on the disk, it will only be L3 or L4 and apparently is L3.

That said, I'm not sure of a way to merge the license without...

Thank you for your suggestions, I did as you suggested and it is now in L4.

That is a hard way to get programs off of a CD into L4, they should come up with a better process. I have had this problem on other titles that came on a CD.

I just recently had a hard drive problem and had to format and reinstall everything. Because of that I lost my old L3 data and had to reinstall and activate it before I could sync the licenses. The web update process is great compared to the old way; I just wished they had a similar process for new titles from a CD.

I think the problem is the fact that L4 is so new compared to all the resources that they have not formatted all resources for L4. Once this happens...Everything will be better. it will not be an end all however. Other publishers may still use L3 format for their books. What I do for CD resources is to just call Logos and get them to unlock it for me in L4. They do it in the matter of seconds so no real time taken from other users. The problem is we must wait for customer service to open. This saves from having to get L3 installed with L4.

Thanks, I will have to give them a call.

The resource is accessable on the desktop that I installed L3 on, but is not accessable on my laptop. I created a shortcut in the command bar area; which show up when I open my laptop, but it says that I do not have a license to view it. I do not want to reinstall L3 on my laptop.

I have tried the update now, update resources and scan optical media commands to no avail.

That is where I got it from. I started using it last year and it really gives me the power of L4 in preparing my lessons. The CD also has all of the resources that I print out and give to my class; they really like the supplemental material.

While I am a tactical person and enjoy reading the hard copy book, L4 provides so many resources that I have essentially set the book aside until I transcribe my notes into it before I go to class.

Since you have the resource on an L3 computer....You should be able to sync licenses wth the L3 computer then the L4 computer will be able to see it. Since tomorrow is Sunday, try to sync licenses with the L3 computer. Once that is done, wait a few minutes then open L4. That should open things up for you. If all else fails, you will get it monday when Logos opens again.

You may want to keep Version 3 installed to access the PowerPoint and PDF files that support the lessons, because Logos 4 does not support the older style home pages Logos 3 is the easiest way to access these files.

I have the 09-10 commentary loaded on my V4 installation, and I am able to access the powerpoint and PDF files easily. I just navigate to the folder which contains them. The files are named by Season and lesson number.

Thank you for the advice. While the Standard Publishing Home Page that starts up in L3 is nice, I do not use it. I access the files by using Windows exployer. I have created shortcuts on my desktop to go directly to the file folders.

While I had L3 before I installed L4, I favor L4 now and use that as my primary tool. I invested the time to attend a Camp Logos after I acquired L4. I have to think about how to do things when I go back to L3.

I went and installed it on my laptop. I synch it again from L3 and still did not get L4 to recognize it. LOGOS does not even show this version of the lessons which may be the reason. I will still call on Monday so that if I have to reload, it will be automatically updated vs the cd load.

Under the library management tools, I also synched my licenses. There is also a account summary tool; it shows the products activated, the serial number and the activation code. It list all of my products and includes both standard lesson ecommentaries I have (including the new one, 2010-2011)

Glad you have a method that works for you, I have a Logos 3 Workspace that I use for accessing the materials. I raised this as an issue during the Logos 4 Beta, I hope that one day they will rebuild the commentaries so that the PowerPoint and PDFs can be accessed from the resources in Logos 4. I now have a complete series of 6 (2004-2005 to 2009-2010) this covers the entire plan so in theory I can use 2004-2005 rather than purchase 2010-2011. Logos 3 remains on my system, with a seriously reduced library, for the Standard Lessons and because I really like Smart Tags in Word. I'm waiting to see what Logos plan to do about Standard Lesson Home Pages and the Smart Tags.

I'm amazed that the 2010-2011 Standard Lesson has been released as a Logos 4 product rather than Logos 3. Out of interest, have they provided an alternative way to access the PowerPoint and PDF files for Logos 4 users? I know that we can use Windows Explorer but given that Logos 4 is designed to be easier to use than Logos 3 I'm not convinced this is a good long term solution.

Ordered it on May 8th - finally arrived today. Though I called LOGOS support, I could have installed it myself if I had installed it to L3 and synchronized my licenses. It did take total restart of L4 before it would find the update to install.
