I am curious to know what the meaning of the aviator is

I have written it in this new thread ,because of the wrong word I have used.
First I would like to ask you humbly to forgive me. Coming from the horn of Africa, I always wonder when I see deferent things like animals and other things in the profile, would you please tell me, what this mean instead of having one's own picture? I am curious to know about it. I would like it if I could hear from every one, but I think this may be waste of time and not important.

The word is Avatar. Here it is in the Concise Oxford English Dictionary
avatar /ˈavətɑː/
■ noun
1 chiefly Hinduism a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth.
2 an incarnation or embodiment of a person or idea.
3 Computing a movable icon representing a person in cyberspace or virtual reality graphics.
– origin from Sanskrit avatāra ‘descent’.
The meaning that is used in computers is the third one. I use my own photo, so my picture is not really an avatar, but as you know other people use cartoon characters and other images to convey who they are, so they are avatars.Hope that helps.Every blessingAlaniMac Retina 5K, 27": 3.6GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9; 16GB RAM;MacOS 10.15.5; 1TB SSD; Logos 8

I think what you are asking is why we have the avatars we have . Mine is because I think it is kind of funny, and I don't really have any pictures of me that I really like. I have some family pictures that are great, but the 6 of us hardly fit into the little box.

MIne is of St. Paul because the more I can focus on how to live my life like he did, the better. I have always been impressed with how faithfully and zealously he gave his whole life to Jesus Christ. With all my weaknesses, the more reminders I have of him, his humility, and his focus on the Lord, the better.

I use a picture of myself for my avatar, because I try to be myself when I'm online. I chose one that has me with my camera, because photographer is a big part of who I am.
Different people choose cartoons or other images that represent some part of their personality, or just something they enjoy. It doesn't have to mean anything in particular.
Note that "aviator" (which means a person who flies, someone involved in aviation) is a completely unrelated word. It just looks similar.

I use a picture of my dog "Honey" because she has been the best dog I have ever had. This picture was taken the week she finished weening 5 puppies and she was smiling because my wife and I were telling her what a good mama she had been. Then we gave all of her puppies away.[;)]

Interesting.
When I came to Europe ,I was wondering
about the names they use ,it is not easy to understand having a different mentality
and background.In
our society ,I can
say it is more or less like the Israelites ,most of the time ,we name wishing
to be defined by the quality of the meaning of the name we give So, you may not
be as excited as I am to know the different kinds of avatars ,for me it is just
like some people collect coins of different countries ,I am learning from what you are writting, not by the motive of
those coin collecters, but something more worth than them.Blessings in Christ

Tes, I appreciate your comment. Interestingly you would be surprised that most of the European names have meaning, not always obvious to today's generation. Many names are of course Biblical but many are from the many European languages, not used anymore today, so the meaning is not so easy grasped by today's people calling the name. In our country (Czechia) we have many Hebrew, Greek, old German, Celtic, old Slavonic etc. names. My name for instance has a very common ending (...slav) as for the Slavonic names (Vladislav, Boleslav, Stanislav etc.) It used to mean "glory to ...something, like Stanislav means "glory to the Status" etc. My name happens to mean "Glory to God" (I like that version by the way [:)]) Today's generation of people do not "hear" the meaning however. They hear just the name and feel the person not by name but by whole image of the person.
When I do a baby dedication, I always try, if it possible and if the meaning is positive [:)] to use the meaning at the occasion. I like to think about names having meanings. So I would like the way you do it in your country.
And at the end, let me say, I do not like to see cartoon characters instead of pictures of the persons I communicate with, I do not like the word Avatar, since it comes from the Sanskrit (sorry for that). I do not like the Avatar film and... well may be I will stop here... I respect on the other hand anybody who feels better to express himself that way [:)]
God bless you Tes, and, by the way, I just came back from Ethiopia some few days ago. I love that part of Africa and it's people.

Bohuslav,
Not only have you made it to the 1K club [;)] you've managed to enlighten me regarding name meanings. Interesting to note that I named my son Brandon meaning "Swift with the sword" in hopes that he will be swift with the sword of the Lord. [:)] Not many American parents appear to do that.
As for the images, can we call them "icons"?
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Bohuslav,
Dear brother,
Dear brother I am overwhelmed with joy,for every word you have said ,it is
much more interesting more than I can emgine,in my case my first name is
Ghebreab my last name is Tesfai, Ghebreab ,is made up of two words,( the
alaphabet h has nothing to do with my name it is only bonus. We have inhirited it
from our former colononinzer from the Italians) so Ghebre will be read as
Gebre, this means ``deeds`` ab`` means God the Father ,and my last name Tesfai
means my hope, when it is combined it means My hope is God`s deeds. In our
country if some one has a bad name ,they will say his name is like this ,so you
cannot expect any good from him , he is just like his name.As an amputee on my
leg I needed some special socks from a company ,where I live the owner`s name
is devil,so I have decided not to use the mark of the devil.and I know names like
mr stone, mrs bad and so on, My motive is not to judge on any body in this thread
,but as we are Christians I am excited to know what he or she means to mean.I
am very glad as well ,what up to now I have read,Ethiopian is a very beautiful country ,it is not like one talks from out
side, how is Addis Ababa? .Blessings in Christ

Wow! Now we have language wars? What's wrong with words from Sanskrit? Do you dislike catamaran for being Tamil? Vashti for being of the Indic branch of Indo-European?[:P][:D]
(Yes, I studied Sanskrit for many years - I may not be an impartial observer)
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

This is a reference to the movie Avatar which has recently been very popular in North America. There are tall blue 'people' called avatars in the movie.
