Help on Strong's +languages package selection

So, long time Logos user, training in Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, etc. My parents have heard enough stuff from me that they've begun using a paper version of Strong's regularly and get excited about their discoveries. Knowing the weaknesses of strong's, I suggested they need a new lexicon, and btw, Dad, there's this program that can go directly from the English to the lexicon and cut strong's out completely.

Now, I don't own any base packages, so I need to ask some functionality questions. I'm going to suggest he acquire the Bible STudy package, + NIDOTTTE (and perhaps mounce and the free Abridged BDB) to start with. (they're working through OT this year.) I note, though, that that package doesn't include any Greek or Hebrew texts.

1) Do the reverse interlinears come with their own texts for sympathetic highlighting?

2) One can indeed jump directly from one of the English Bibles to NIDOTTE, right?

I'm inclined to suggest the cheapest package with this kind of functionality, because they don't really read much of the other kinds of things in these packages.

Just to clarify, do the reverse interlinears have a separate greek/hebrew text one can open up, or only the greek/hebrew below the word in interlinear mode?

Edit: hmmm. It also looks like I don't get referral credit or they get 25% off unless I myself own a base package. True?

2nd Edit: Maybe just KJV with Strong's +Mounce +free books to start? No package at all?

For Greek I have been using BDAG, Louw-Nida, and I also use Mounce and the WSDICTNT by Zodhiates. For Hebrew I just recently purchased the HALOT (which only comes with the Portfolio package), sometimes I use DBL and BDB. I think it was about $160 for the 4 volume set but for me it was worth it. You may want to identify the resources you would like to have and then run the numbers to what would be best (buying a package, or purchasing them individually).

The interlinears rely on the resources you have in your library for word studies.

Abridged BDB

I think the Abridged BDB would be especially frustrating for someone who didn't know much Hebrew, because it doesn't have a custom KeyLink index yet, so it only looks words up by their spelling - and if you're coming from a Reverse Interlinear that is using the A-F analysis, those spellings don't even include vowel points. DBL Hebrew is an ok small lexicon, and that is in the Bible Study Library. Concise HAL is another better option, though you'd have to get that a la carte or with one of the larger base packages.

They include the source text (in English word order, of course) as optional lines to display in interlinear fashion, but they don't come with Greek or Hebrew texts in their native word order unless you're getting a package that lists those. The Reverse Interlinears will sympathetically highlight with each other, but that isn't what you're asking for.

As long as it's an English Bible with Reverse Interlinear data, then yes, you can jump straight from the RI to NIDOTTE. NIDOTTE doesn't contain every word in the Hebrew Text (if I remember rightly), but it does have a KeyLink Index, so it should link well for the words it does contain.

The Bible Study library has all that your Dad would need without having separate Greek/Hebrew bibles as it includes the reverse interlinears + Greek and HebrewAramaic lexicons in addition to Strong's:-

1. The reverse interlinears can show the Greek/Hebrew text inline or in a separate panel (where the Greek/Hebrew word is highlighted when you click the English word).

2. You can jump directly to any lexicon you prefer, incl. Strong's. So if NIDOTTTE is indexed on Strong's numbers then the answer to your Q is "yes", using the reverse interlinear.

EDIT: Vincent's reply clarifies what is possible with NIDOTTTE! The lexicons included with the Bible Study l library (3 x DBL by Swanson) are complete and also use Strong's numbers.
