I test the speed of loading Logos with my old commentary collections, and with ones modified for the new syntax. All the tests were performed on my standard HDD, not SSD. I ran the first test after clearing all RAM caches using RAMMap. I then closed Logos and ran the test again. In each case I give the time shown in the log for "Updating Collection Cache", and the total time taken to get to that point since startup
All collections using the old syntax:
- First run: 43.57s
- Second run: 39.58s
Commentary collections using the new syntax, other collections using the old syntax:
- First run: 30.96s
- Second run: 31.54s
All collections using the new syntax:
- First run: 35.91s
- Second run: 31.25s
This seems to suggest that whilst some collections optimise particularly well using the new syntax, others don't make that much difference.
Other than title and subject extensions, One further strong possibility for optimisation is to ensure that each collection is only calculated once. The log file (if it's accurate) suggests that's not happening. It currently says I have 1,440 collections, whereas I only actually have 173.
