Deleting index files

I have several large index files in a Logos folder stored on my computer. Can I safely delete these to free up room on my disk? They are both labeled index.idx. One is in a Library Index folder. The other is in a Bible Index folder. Both are in the multiple GB file size.

The larger issue is that I just found out that my Logos file system is taking up about 30% of my (admittedly small) disk space. With so much stored on the cloud with Logos, do I have something set up wrong so that Logos is placing all of this data on my hard drive?

Any help would be appreciated.

Index files are needed for Search. If you delete a file then re-indexing will automatically start; taking a few hours to complete.

The major part (about 75%) of your installation size is Resources. About 15% is used by the two Index folders. All your documents are stored on the hard drive, and backed up (sync'd) to the cloud. Except for a few Tools and Documents, you can use Logos offline, so there is nothing wrong with your installation.

You need a larger hard drive or a second hard drive as SD cards are not recommended/supported for Logos.

Both of these files are necessary for Logos to work correctly - one has an index of books in your library, the other is specifically for Bibles.

So, assuming you are using Logos, you need these files. If you do delete them the software will automatically recreate them (and it could take a long time).

What sort of space constraints do you have?

All of your resources - along with a range of other files - are downloaded to your local device as well as being accessible in the cloud.

This is something we have no control over I'm afraid.

That is obviously not ideal, especially since "best practices" (unrelated to Logos) dictates that you have some breathing room (perhaps 20GB) on your drive.

There are methods to try and cheat to get a smaller footprint, but I would not recommend any of them since they would handicap your installation and perhaps cause other headaches.

Your best bet is to install a new drive, if possible. The minimum I would recommend to anyone is 250GB. Outside of getting a new computer, the only other real option is to really cut back on non-logos applications & data.

For offline use, resources are downloaded to local storage and indexed. Media can also be downloaded, which goes into WebCache folder (can be safely deleted).

If internet is stable, suggest Web Apps => https://app.logos.com and => https://app.verbum.com that use resources and indexes stored in the cloud. If Web App(s) are adequate, then Logos could be deleted from small disk to free up space.

Logos 7 currently requires all resource files to be downloaded and stored locally. We realise this is a significant constraint on tablet-like systems with smaller drives.
