Would Appreciate Suggestions for Good Budget Desktop (PC)

I am a military chaplain, and my PC just died (motherboard) .  I would really appreciate any recommendations for a budget computer (<$500) including recommended configurations and online retailers.  I'd be okay with a refurbished machine.  I do not need a monitor, just the PC.

I primarily use it for Logos 4, Word Processing, and e-mail.  Thank you for your help.

At this point in Logos4, emphasize RAM (at least 6MB - if you can get a 64bit OS), Dedicated video with at least 512MB video RAM (some say more, but on a budget that should do), and a Hard Drive over 500GB. Also, if you have a choice, Intel seems a tad faster than AMD at this point. If you can get an i5 or an i7 that would be best.

There are a few other unknown issues with L4 that still seem elusive, but on a new (i.e., clean) machine, with the above spec's L4 should run well.

Dell and HP make the most reliable desktops (IMHO), though Gateway has been getter better, from what I've heard.

I would recommend Win7 64bit, if you can get it, as L4 will run better in a 64 bit environment.

You could build your own for a bit less, but there are potential problems there with some chip set compatibility, and, of course, you get no support if something goes wrong. I've done this in the past, but didn't find it worth the money I saved. I would only recommend building yourself, if you are a PC enthusiast with lots of experience.

I have a Dell. This is my 5th one. I do like being able to configure just what I want by buying on line and having it shipped directly to me. But I configured my current computer for about 3X what you paid. You may find what you're looking for off the shelf at one of the big box stores.
