New wiki page: Update Channels

With the release of a new version (4.0c) there has again been confusion about what the command "Set Update Channel to {default|stable|beta}" does. http://wiki.logos.com/Update_Channels seeks to explain it based on the following posts What the update channel means 1, 2, 3, 4 by Bradley Grainger.
Currently that page also has this graphic. Suggestions are welcome for its improvement and/or correction of any misunderstanding I had of Bradley's words.

Kevin,
Thanks for adding the page to the wiki. But I'm not sure you've understood it quite correctly (not least because there's an important set update channel to default command). Three posts of mine which I hope help:

Mark, if I am reading your posts correctly, I understand the behaviors the same way as you. I intended that the "default behaviors" section of the wiki page to describe the the behaviors you described in your posts. I will attempt to refine the wiki page to make it more clear.

Hi Kevin
It's a brave attempt and explaining the Set "Default" channel will make it more challenging!
A typo - "Users of the Beta installer will relieve updates"

Dave,
Thanks for the typo report, I've fixed it.
It wasn't my attempt to be brave, it just seemed like it needed to be done with this question arising again. I've edited it again, adding the Set Update Chanel to Default wrinkle. Hopefully it's clear.

It would be great if Bradley could review that wiki page and verify if it is completely accurate.

I think from another answer he gave elsewhere, he would rather the command went away and people stopped playing with the Betas [:)]
But then how could we find the broken bits in time to get them redesigned the way we like?

I don't think he would rather people stopped using the betas. That's the whole point of releasing them. But he would probably rather people other than beta testers not ever use the set update channel command. It is really meant for internal use only, and is not supported the way the rest of the product is.

IMHO I think if this chart that Mark created was added to the wiki it's pretty self explanatory - a picture is worth 1000 words!

I have it taped to my wall now [:D]

Yes, I had just posted that suggestion to Mark. I think it's easier to understand than the other chart that's currently on the wiki page, but both can stay.

I'll rephrase - it's a good attempt at a difficult topic.

The effect of "Set Update Channel to Default" is not explicitly displayed and has to be
deduced from "About Logos Bible software" as you describe. But the effect of "Set Update Channel to stable|beta" is displayed as (Update channel: stable) or (Update channel: beta). Might also be useful to state that "set update channel" also checks for updates on that channel as per Update Now.Dave

Great. I'd obviously misunderstood the wiki page, but I understand it now!
