Any good Logos resource on views re 6,000 year-old earth?

Hi. I' wanting to better understand the issues for or against views about the earth being 6,000 years old, rather than 3-4 GYears, and the Universe being 13.7 GY.

So, I'm wanting to see what I can get and study in Logos before this weekend if possible, so a Logos resource suits my timeframe well. I want to be better informed before a game of Wookie Chess breaks out and someone gets hurt.

I hardly dare ask this question above, but if people can please stay on focus.

    Michael,

Thanks for the web link, but I actually want something in Logos I can read. And I wanted something that gave a more complete view of the issues. I already have enough from only the young side.

    Hi Jim,

I did a search of my library for "young earth" and did not find any of the scientific books none are written purely in support of a 6,000 year old earth, but there are a few that try to discuss the different views.

    Foundations for Creationism (vol I)

    http://www.logos.com/ebooks/details/cfnffc

Creation as Science (The appendices seem to have a lot on Young Earth theory)

    http://www.logos.com/ebooks/details/CRTNASSCI

The Creator And The Cosmos (Hugh Ross is an Old Earth creationist)

    http://www.logos.com/ebooks/details/CREATRCOSMOS

Okay, I take it back, this 2 book collection features a book that is written in support of a Young Earth

    Genesis Collection (2 Vols.)

Let me know if I can give you more info brother.

    Hi Jim,

Here are a few resources that may help in your research:

    http://www.logos.com/ebooks/details/GENRECORD

    http://www.logos.com/ebooks/details/CRTNASSCI

    http://www.logos.com/products/details/4054

    http://www.logos.com/products/details/284

These are mainly young-earth resources, but I think there is a good discussion in each of these works regarding the issues.

Might I also suggest going to the logos homepage and doing a search for "creation" and "evolution"?  This might narrow down some more resources for you.

    Grace and Peace,

I browsed a few chapters of this book in my library and it also has some interesting discussions that compare / contrast the different views

A Matter of Days by Hugh Ross

FYI, most of these resources are also on the iPod / iPhone / iPad so they are mobile ready if that is your thing :-)

John MacArthur has a book called "The Battle for the Beginning". It is basically a commentary on the first couple chapters of Genesis. He discusses different philosophical worldviews such as uniformitarianism and catastrophism in the book.

He approaches a belief in a young Earth much differently than most, he pretty much avoids the scientific debate altogether. He convincingly argues for a literal interpretation of the Creation account and points out the theological and moral implications of a allergically interpretation.

This is only available on Logos through his LifeWorks bundle. I'm not sure if Logos still sells it on their site, but there is several other places that have it.

Not Logos resources, I'm afraid, but you will find a solid, Bible-honouring case for Old Earth views in The Selfless Gene by Charles Foster and in Creation Or Evolution: Do We Have To Choose? by Denis Alexander.

Jim are you looking for something like this?image t

Type the name in a search engine and purchase from the store. The cost is $10.00. The articles are written by scienties who believe in a young earth. The majority of them are scientist with Phd.,s and some Bible teachers.

You have to go to an external website to purchase it.

Thanks everyone for these links to Logos resources...I guess I wasn't smart enough to put in "Genesis" in the search box... [:$]

In any case, I have a few more things now on the "wish list"....

I am discovering it is going to take a while to find it in a search engine. Logos does not carry the cd presently. The files are still on their server though. Contact me by mail for the name of the publishing house that has it.

lynden_williams at the mail that is always hot.

Forum guidelines advise/warn against publishing links to external websites that compete with Logos. It comes from the publishing house of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, who has done a lot of study on creation, from a scientific and biblical perspective.

I want to thank everyone that has replied here. Thanks also for staying on-topic. I know this question can and does cause some concerns ... but here is not the place to explore that.

The answers above offer a good range of books and possible options, and on a few sides of the question I raised. I trust they will be of ongoing use to others that might find them in a search some time.

I ran Joe's Collection rule above, and got ZERO at first. After reading everyones answers above, I have purchased some additional Logos resources. Now the Collection rule gets some of them, but not all of what I purchased.

I also found something in one of my resources I had all along. Its a book thats "built in" to my base package, but I have much stuff I've never opened even once yet. Much to read and learn. I love searching: Never sure what new things I might find.

I saw the many answers I got offered here, within a very short time of asking. Special thanks for the amount of time Joe must have spent. I held off replying too soon as I wanted to let people speak free and offer a few options rather than get one or two only and close off the thread.

The words don't feel strong enough, but Thank You all.

    Glad to help brother!

Maybe you can help me now.  What books do you have that did not show up using my Collection code?  I thought I caught them all, but would like to improve my Collection if I can.

    Thanks

    Hi Joe.

I was going to say nothing, so this thread did not appear to take sides too much, but I think its already too late, so down to the matter.

I purchased the 9-book set at http://www.logos.com/products/details/4249 so now your Collection displays 5 of those titles. I have not had them long enough to see if its a good match, and if the missing ones should be includes. A match for author would of course pick them all up.

I also already had: "How it all Began" LLS:53.10.69 which addresses a few comments of merit.

Also: "The Fundamentals", R.A. Torry, LLS:FNDMNTALS which touches on some of this.

Also: "UNDERSTAND WHY YOU BELIEVE - The Apologetics Study Bible", Ted Cabal, GENERAL EDITOR. LLS:APLGSTDYBBL

I got to head out for now, but maybe I'll add more here in due course.

    Thanks Joe.

Thanks, I will check out the ones I have in my library and see if I need to expand my Collection so they are included.

I was missing a few titles so modified my Collection as folllows

subject:creationism OR title:creation AND science OR title:genesis AND science OR title:evolution OR author:"hugh ross"

FYI, I am excluding Apologetics resources from this particular collection.  If someone wanted to include those resources, they would need to modify the filter I have posted above.

Does anyone have the "Origins Journal" that I posted a few links above? It was definitely written from a young earth view point.

Yes, I've got it.  Its also sold by the ABC (where I got I think for ~$9).

It was unbelievably painful to install in Logos 4 (although its easy to install w/Libronix).  Logos does not have it on their servers so the only way I was able to get it to transfer was to manually copy the books over.

Do you have any particular questions about the resource?

Love the Journal. Just wonderiing if any of the other posters had looked at it, as they were moaning the lack of resources on  creation from a 6,000 year pointof view.

By the way, you spell your first name (I assume) the same way that I used to spell mine. My passport has the current spelling, so I was forced to change over.

Wow, interesting story.  Meet lots of Lyndons and Lyndens but I think only one other Linden.  No control how my name was spelled--determined by my parents.  However, I'm used to it now, not sure I could switch to a different spelling at this point.  How long did it take you to adjust?

As far as the origins journal, haven't had much time to look it over, but it seems pretty good.

    David,

You will have to buy one of the resources mentioned above to find the answer. Let us not turn this thread into a debate (per forum guidelines).

Its 11:30 pm Saturday night here. I attended a meeting at my church tonight, where some of these matters were the direct topic and of some questions and answers.

Again, I wish to thank those that directed me to a number of resources in Logos. I purchased some, and reviewed some key aspects so I could better understand tonight, and the positions of some of what was spoken.

As I asked at the start, that this thread keep focus: I think everyone has done so. I thank you all for that.

I intend to study the matter more, and read more of what I have, which is some recent resources on each side of young-earth and old-earth, but in each case, a strong focus to God as Creator of the Earth, the Universe, of Mankind, Jesus as true God and our Salvation and Redeemer. Let no other talk draw your eyes off God.

I would respectfully ask for any additional posts here to stay about Logos resources, and leave any disagreements for another place and time.

Paul spoke to the Church in 1 Cor 2:1-5 about preaching Jesus alone.

Paul spoke to the Church in 1 Cor 2:1-5 about preaching Jesus alone.

Incidentally, one cannot preach Jesus apart from a historical Adam, re: the parallels between the first and second Adam in Romans 5:12-21.  Food for thought.

Also, there are some good summaries of the various views regarding creation in systematic theologies in Logos, such as Grudem's Systematic Theology, Erickson's Christian Theology, etc. I found them very helpful when I was working on a doctrinal statement for a course recently on the subject of Creation.
