Simple iPad Bible Study Question

Hi,

I lead a small group and have been using logos on my iPad as my reference during our group meetings for several years.

My issue is that when I am asked simple questions - Who is Solomon and what did he do? Where is that place located on a map? Is this the only time he is mentioned in bible? Is this person retaliated to that person? Etc - I get lost in the reference options available to me. For example, when I highlight a word and choose “lookup”, “search”, or “study” there is too much information. I am not interested in hearing all of the resources that contain the work Solomon, nor the original languages or how the name came about. Obviously for some people is very valuable and I certianly appreciate that.

So, is there a way to limit my library of resources to the the basics? I am aware what people “basics” will widely and I apologize for the ambiguity. I would love to have some basic information about a passage or word initially and then if I need I can go deeper, as opposed to having access to all reference material on the first ”level”.

Any thoughts?

My answer to this dilemma would be to get to know your library, preferably via the desktop app. The answer to those questions will likely come from different sources. Knowing the resource and how it is organized would be important. FWIW - I don’t view the mobile app as a good choice for study... it is best for reading. If I needed to find an answer and didn’t know where to look, I’d grab my MacBook.

How much would having a Study Bible linked to your preferred Bible go towards giving you what you need?

Then identify a general purpose dictionary that you can easily work through - such as Lexham Bible Dictionary?

If you focused on those how much of what you are trying to do would be resolved?

Thank you. I have the NASB and the MacArthur NASB Study bible and that combo, linked on my iPad, answers a lot of my questions. Specifically I find the MacSB is really good at explaining the passages (which I assume it was designed to do) it does not seem to provide the the additional context I need. I am going to try two things:

1) Make sure I have ready access to the Lexham Bible Dictionary (I assume you suggested this because it is a good all purpose dictionary), and

2) Make note of all the questions that I can not answer via one of these three sources and based on those questions I will come back to this group and see which resources would be best.

I just downloaded Logos on my new PC. I will use that for serious study.

I use my iPad for work so it is with me all the time and hence my desire to maximize it's use.
