Morph Search Logos 7

Hi all,

I've been trying to simply search for all the times the word πειθω occurs in the perfect tense in the NT. In Philippians Paul uses πεποιθὼς to describe himself being convinced of the spiritual state of his readers. I want to see how this word in this tense is used elsewhere.

When I do a search, I can only see the word πειθω which forces me to wade through hundreds of uses in order to find a couple perfect tense uses.

I believe I'm doing something wrong however, because even when I type πεποιθὼς in verbatim to how it is used in the SBL GNT (even accent is verbatim) I still get no results (see circled words in picture).

So, I'm only able to do Greek morph searches in the lexical form of the word.

Any suggestions?

Put a @ after the lemma and you should be able to pick the codes for imperfect. It should look somewhat like the third example under Morphology on the Morphology search samples page.

When in the resource, right-click the word and select the Lemma or Morph on the right hand side

Scroll the left side to find Search: and select the Morph:.... option e.g. Morph: πείθω@VRAP-SNM
In the Search panel, click just after the to refine the morphology via a picker e.g.

deselect highlighted entries to get Perfect tense @VR

In a Morph Search panel, type or paste the lemma e.g. πείθω OR type g: followed by a transliterated form e.g. g:peitho

Select the lemma from the drop down list. You should then see lemma:πείθω

Type after the lemma term and select the morphology from the picker e.g. lemma:πείθω@VR
Run the search!

Thanks so much for your feedback.

This is really strange. I'm able to use the picker after the @ sign and refine a search, but I can't do it with a particular word. So, I can see all the @VR in the GNT, but as soon as I ask to see the πειθω@VR I get no results. I tried this with multiple words to no avail.

I tried the other method - right clicking πεποιθως in Phil 1:6, selecting lemma or root then selecting morph. Still no results. If after right clicking the word I select the option under lemma and root (which is just "morph") that shows the parsing for the word (@VRAP-SNM) then select morph search, it will show me the same results mentioned above. Either way, I can't search for specific words.

I should mention, I'm only using Logos 7 basic. Perhaps they're barring me from doing a more detailed morph search? My only other thought in terms of licensing is that I only have the regular SBL GNT. Perhaps I need an upgraded GNT that is more thoroughly tagged?

I notice from your screenshot that you are searching for "primary morph" - defined as the primary morphological tag for a given word"

Try clearing that (click on it and remove it from the dropdown) so you end up with "All Morph Text" showing and see if that resolves the issue

Ah, that's it! I had previously looked at that search parameter and thought everything was unchecked because my only two options we're unchecked. However, there are dropdowns with more options for each of the two primary options, and I had 'primary morph' selected as you noticed.
