HMM. I don't know FL's position on the Faithlife Forum, but here in the Logos Forum we have a guideline that says:
Please do not use our forums to
- sell or give away anything or link to anything you’re selling or giving away—including Logos products
- promote or link to competitors
- point people to other places that sell Logos-compatible products
- advertise yourself, your business, your ministry, your website, etc. (a tasteful link in your forum signature is acceptable)
- post Logos Coupon Codes. If you are aware of a special promotion Logos is running online, you are welcome to link directly to the promotion.
So, I wonder if starting a FL Forum like this falls within the spirit of the guidelines we already know about?

While I can’t speak for FL I know numerous times this FB group has been mentioned in the forums without any issue. It would be different if someone came here saying I have x y z and a b c for sale here is the link to the FB group. I personally do think that it is good to mention it as it does allow people to know of a good way to find others who might like to buy. However if I do hear from FL this should not be mentioned I will respect that and never mention it.

Mark,
Richard is bringing attention to a FL group, not a sale or product; I find no fault here. If he is exceeding the limits of good practice here, let FL comment and make plain their position on this.

I'm not here to argue, but I'll try to back up the concern I shared.
First, Richard is pointing to a place where Logos products are sold in competition with Logos (none are yet listed, so you can nit-pick, but that is the announced intention of the linked page), and doing so seems to violate the third item on the list I quoted. That's really not, however, my point. I was not chastising Richard for pointing out this forum page.
My point was (as you quote) that establishing a FL group to resell Logos products may be a violation of the spirit of these rules, which is not to use FL provided space to 'compete' with them in the sale of their resources. I don't have any idea who created that group (I see it's been around for awhile and basically unused) nor whether FL has approved it, set it up, or not. If not, I can understand them deleting the group. To my mind there appears to be a conflict with their expressed desire, so I'll be interested in any follow-up, if any, from FL.

Where can I learn where to sell my books or buy books from estates of people who have died?
Companies which try to stifle competition usually do not prosper. This comes from three decades in and out of anti-trust and related litigation.
If that is a rule then it is a bad rule. I will nevertheless follow it but always wonder why any company would want to hamper the resale market of their wonderful but expensive stuff.

Facebook and ebay.
But your argument is silly. Digital books are digital. They don’t age. You want Logos to sponsor its own competition. Why? And who does that ... same digital titles? Plus they don’t discourage competition ... surprisingly. They even happily encouraged discussion of their competition. Who does that??

Allowing resale of Logos books indirectly helps Logos. Specifically, if people know they can potentially resell something down the road if they get tired of it or really need the money, they will be more apt to make a large investment. No one cares if they can't resell a 99¢ Kindle book, but if you are sinking hundreds of dollars into a commentary collection (in Logos or in print), the peace of mind of being able to resell it later certainly aids in taking the plunge.

Oh, I'd agree. Everyone wants peace of mind, until reality steps in. If you do sell your Logos investment, plan on cents on the dollar. And Logos happily transfers the licenses at a fixed low rate ... very accommodating.
And Kindle, dream on. Try to buy discounted pre-owned Kindle academic geology books (my most recent frustration). Ain't going to happen. Logos, yes (but not geology).
Now, I'd agree with the complaint on gifting. Logos won't let you mention gifting resources ... poorest preacher boy, and he's come to the wrong door. I just ignore the guideline.

FL has no rule against reselling their products, as Denise already mentioned. They simply would prefer that you do not use their facilities in doing so. Can you imagine Walmart allowing someone to set up a counter within one of their stores to sell products originally purchased from said store—and at discounted prices?
That is all FL is discouraging.
