Bug: 4.0c: Unprintable character pasted into Word when copying from AYBC with transliterated aleph i

Open Exodus 19-40: A New Translation with Introduction and Commentary (AYBC)

Go to the Notes for Exodus 31:3 and find the second paragraph:

a divine spirit. My rendering follows LXX pneuma theion, Hebrew rûaḥ ʾĕlōhîm, which might also be translated "Deity’s spirit" (see NOTE to 8:15), is a pregnant phrase. In Gen 41:38, it refers to Joseph’s uncanny ability to interpret dreams. In Num 24:2 and many other passages, it describes prophetic inspiration. But in Exod 31:3, rûaḥ ʾĕlōhîm connotes wondrous manual skill, the ability to actualize the divine intent.

Select it, copy it, and paste it into Word.

Look at the footnote that got pasted in for Deity. It has an unprintable character at the beginning of elohim instead of the apostrophe-looking thing which is a transliteration for aleph:

We'll look into this. There are some interesting things going on here. This is the footnote I get: Deity translation for lhîm ‘God’ (NOTE to 1:17).

I'm not sure why it's not bringing the transliteration over correctly. I get the same result if I click on the footnote reference in the text and copy that. However, if I copy the same text from LDLS 3 (same book file, ANCHOR02BEX.lbxlls), the footnote looks like this: Deity translation for ʾĕlōhîm ‘God’ (NOTE to 1:17).

From my LDLS 3 example above, it doesn't appear to have anything to do with Word, but it would be good to know your version of Word.

I have Word 2007 on my laptop with L4 4.0c, and Word 2010 on my desktop with L4 4.0c, and the footnotes appear perfectly on both. Something else must be causing it.

Dominick, what font are you using in Word as your default font, and what font is the text in this example pasted into Word in (in the footnote)? I wonder if that could be the difference between your setup and mine. I'm using L4 4.0c too. Calibri is my default font in Word, both in the main text and in the footnotes. Note that the transliterated aleph shows up fine in the main body of the text. It's only in the footnote where it comes in as an unprintable character.

On Word 2010 Calibri 11 is my default in both main text and footnotes, in Word 2007 it pasted in as Times New Roman 12 in main text and Calibri 11 for footnotes. I tried shrinking and increasing the font of the footnotes on both versions and it still looks correct.
