Make it easier to buy with a “Not Interested” list

Dear Logos.com Developers,

Logos has so many titles now that I often get thousands of results. Please make it easier for me to find and to buy titles of interest.

I propose a “Not Interested” list.

Anything on the “Not Interested” would not show in queries on Logos.com. If I go to Sale > On Sale Today, anything on my “Not Interested” list would be hidden from view (unless I click a link to “Include titles on ‘Not Interested’ list”). Now I can focus on things I see frequently but don’t care to buy ever.

If I’m Catholic, I can add various Protestant titles to my “Not Interested” list. If I’m Protestant, I can add various Catholic titles to my “Not Interested” list. If I’m not interested in classics, fiction, or various other new directions the company takes, I can add those to my “Not Interested“ list.

The Not Interested list would be managed similar to a Wish List. In any search results that currently have “Add to Wish List” would also have “Add to Not Interested“ and be hidden from future search resuls. If the title is part of a series that I don’t want, when I add that title to the “Not Interested“ list then Logos.com should ask if I want to add the entire series to “Not Interested”—that would be great!

I should be able to review the “Not Interested“ list and to remove items from it, just like a wish list. But unlike a wish list, the “Not Interested” list doesn’t have any priority—all “Not Interested” items are hidden from search results by default. Now I don’t have to see the same uninteresting titles or uninteresting series over and over without ever finding something that I might want to BUY!

Scott, have you thought this through for your responsibilities? If I remember right, FL has about 40K titles. Might be less, but anyway ‘ a lot ‘.’

How are you going to manage your list? And the 40K grows each month ... you’ll be exhausted adding not-wanteds.

Let’s say instead you could have a ‘not these’ rules (from the carot selector, eg no Pentecostals).

The issue there is that when Logos can’t figure out a book, it ‘must’ be evangelical (and an issue for Catholics).

I agree that this would be helpful, The problem wouldn't be that the not-interested list would have to be exhaustive, but rather that I could stop seeing the same item that I'm not interested in. It would save time and probably also be used by Logos to better target items to me.

I totally agree! The main thing isn't an exhaustive list, but to stop seeing repeats. I keep seeing the same items that I don't intend to buy anytime soon. That's why I would really like a "Not Interested" list. Many of them are sets, so I'd like to put the whole set on "Not Interested".

This might help, but I'd also (or preferably) like to see a way to eliminate entire categories of results -- e.g., no fiction, no MobileEd courses, or whatever. We can limit the search results to just one genre or publisher, but there's no way to select multiple items from any of those facet categories, nor to weed out one or more of those items. (Yes, if you know the syntax for the URL parameters, you can do a certain amount of this from the URL command line -- e.g., &unlocked=no), but I have not succeeded in using that syntax to eliminate entire genres that I'm not interested in. I wouldn't want to have to make up a "Not Interested" list with all the MobileEd courses, because it would need to be a dynamic list as they are always bringing out new courses.

That would probably be difficult, as FL's language category isn't limited to the language that a book is written in, but also refers to the language that a book is about.

For example, a Hebrew grammar such as Beginning Biblical Hebrew, is categorized as both English and Hebrew. If someone tried to filter out all Hebrew books (assuming they were written in Hebrew), the filter would also exclude many English books (about Hebrew).

I can see how that might be a problem. I was more thinking of modern language products. It's great that Logos is providing more Chinese-language packages and products - that should be of real benefit to the global church. But there's no point in my even looking at them, because I can't read Chinese.

That isn't so crucial to me, because I can select English to rule out all the other languages I don't want to see books in. However, I could see a customer who is fluent in French, say, wanting to see both English and French titles, and there's no way to do that currently.
