You <shouldn’t > have to do so unless something has become corrupt. My guess is that laptops would be more susceptible to such due to interruptions In indexing.
As far as I know, indexing will run automatically everytime your home page is opened and something new has been added or updated.

Yes, but that is adding to the index the new material. The question is about rebuilding the index in its entirety.
There are two situations where you might want to manually rebuild your index:
In both cases, reindexing will remove those now-hidden and/or now-locked resources from the index, saving you a bit of disk space, and possibly gaining some speed when searching the index (since it is now smaller).
Other than that, there's really no benefit to rebuilding the index regularly, as there would be no real savings in size or improvement in performance.
I'd just let the system automatically rebuild it as needed when new or updated resources get downloaded.
(Faithlife Connect does download temporary preview resources each month, which get locked the next month, assuming you don't buy them. But I don't think it's worth the time and expense of rebuilding the index every month, simply because a small number of temporary resources get removed from the library.)

Also, I would just use the "Delete Unlicensed Resources" command for situations where preview resources are locked after the preview period ends. That frees up space and is much quicker and easier than rebuilding the entire index.

Yes. It removed 34 resources dating between Feb 2018 and June 2018, saving 51 MB.
If I re-indexed every 6 months, it would save a similar amount of disk space (if not more).
Indexes fragment easily on hard disk drives. So, if you are interested in performance, you need to defrag the Logos folder (which includes the Indexes) fairly regularly e.g. after a large download. Some free software allows you to defrag files in specific folders.
