Personal Book Page Numbers

I am considering making some of the commentaries I have in pdf format into personal books. One question I have is regarding inserting page numbers.

 I see on the wiki page that page numbers can be inserted as a datatype or milestone.

Must I manually insert milestones on each page for each page number or is there a way to do it all at once?

To the best of my knowledge there is no official way to insert page numbers automatically.

That said, users have created macros to do this. I know there was one floating around that would put a page break every so many words or so - but since I wanted my PB's to match printed editions, I have never used it. It is conceivable to have a macro that recognizes various formating that indicates a page break and automatically do this also, but I have always tagged them manually. This is admittedly a bit of a pain, but so can debugging how a computer can mess something like this up automagically.
