If you want to keep your highlights, but just not see them right now, on the iOS mobile app tap on the three dots at the upper right when you are reading. Then go down to the bottom of the menu that pops up and select “Notes On”. That will then open a menu that will show you all the notes files that you have turned on. One or more of those will contain highlighting; turn them off and that highlighting will be “muted” until you turn it back on.
However, not all highlighting is highlighting—ensure you aren’t actually dealing with something different, like a Visual Filter that is putting markup on the page.
i have a ton of highlighting, and find it easier to work with it on the desktop app—the mobile app interface just isn’t as powerful or forgiving when you have overlapping layers of highlights.
