Prayers in the Bible

Hi all,

I'm trying to find all the places in the Bible where people pray to God, spec. a person speaking to God.

I've been using the following search string: {Addressee <Person God>} INTERSECTS {Section <PreachingTheme = Prayer>}

But a cursory glance over the returned results shows that I'm missing some important examples (such as the whole of Genesis for example (eg. Genesis 18:16-33).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Note this particular passage is tagged as "Mode: Conversation" as opposed to "Mode: Prayer"

Your next step should be to right click a word in that passage, for you will find Intercession (Prayer); which provides the Search {Section <Culture Intercession (prayer)>}. Then you can use {Addressee <Person God>} INTERSECTS {Section <Culture Intercession (prayer)>}, or combine it with your original ----> {Addressee <Person God>} INTERSECTS {Section <Culture Intercession (prayer)>}, {Section <PreachingTheme = Prayer>}

Ted, Graham's tip about the 'Speaking to God' interactive is the best place to start if you have access to it. It really helped me work out what kinds of prayers I was looking for (Thanks, Graham!). From there, one can follow Dave suggestion of right-clicking verses that match your criteria and pulling out the correct data tags for search. That's basically the route I've been following. All that said, yes, I can appear, and at times be, unnecessarily complicated

Thanks, Dave. Feels a bit messy but used your suggestion above and explained it to:

{Addressee <Person God>} INTERSECTS {Section <Culture Intercession (prayer)>}, {Section <PreachingTheme = Prayer>} OR {Section <PreachingTheme = Prayer: Intercession>})

That pulled in the Gen 18 Passage and Moses prayer in Ex 32.

Also adjusted the search range to exclude Psalm which I am not interested in at this time which has shaved 200+ verses off my results.

Maybe the search parameters are throwing you off? If you open the Speaking to God Interactive and click on the Mode: Prayer selection it will present 280+ passages that makeup all the tagged prayers in the bible. Then you have it! No "Search" required.

If you wanted the Prayers that Jesus prayed, then select Speaker: Jesus and I see 17 results! It's picking choosing from the left menu that gives you the results you are looking for if a person is looking for the prayers in the bible (considering Prayer is "Speaking to God.")

The Search Parameters throw people off, I think that is why FL has been creating interactives like Bible Browser and Speaking To God.
