BUG? Misunderstanding on my part? Error in tagging? Propositional Outlines

I'm working my way through the propositional outlines to make sure I truly understand them. So naturally on the first tag "accompaniment" I hit an apparent error. Why does this always happen to me?

I have run a Search on {Section <PropositionalOutline = Accompaniment>} - you see the highlighted results for Gen 28:12 in both the Search panel and the Bible panel. I was surprised to see a place highlighted so I checked the definition of accompaniment:

So why is a place "Timnah" highlighted? Why is it part of "accompaniment"? It seems that "location" is more appropriate.

Similarly "into the ark" seems more appropriate as "location" rather than accompaniment in Gen 7:7

In short, "accompaniment" that does not appear to meet the definition occurs in:

• Gen 2:9
• Gen 7:7
• Gen 38:12
• several Exodus instances are two objects which technically fails the definition Ex 27:12, 29:40 (a list of ingredients for a recipe)
• some are of people holding objects Ex 34:29, 35:22, 36:8 motif in weaving

etc. etc. So is it the definition that is in error?

I agree the definition is misleading: looking at the various instances, they're much more about something that accompanies something else (I'd have to look deeper to come up with a more suitable definition).

In Gen 38:12, i'm not sure why Timnah is highlighted here. We deliberately chose to constrain the annotation to specific syntactic units, which sometimes means the annotation isn't quite as fine-grained as we like. I'll ask one of our Hebrew folks to take a closer look, and see if we can come up with a better definition for Accompaniment.

Thanks Sean. That helps me be confident that I know what I should be seeing ... and that either the data or the definition may need refining. If you ever need an off-site copy editor, I know a very good one with experience in educational software and she's much better than me.  :-)

Hi MJ:

I will expand our definition to make it clear that it metaphorically extends from persons to objects. I will also update the limitations section of our documentation.

Unfortunately in most of the texts listed above there is something garbled in the translation from Hebrew to English. And, that is something that we should make users aware of. For example, Gen 38:12 looks more like this in Hebrew:

Action                        And he went up to his sheepshearers
Accompaniment                he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite at Timnah.

Timnah might still need to be dropped down as a Location. But, there would likely still be a problem in the translation because "to his sheepshearers" has also been moved out of its slot in the original language text.

The same goes for Gen 7:7. The translation moves "with" further up in the verse whereas the Hebrew text reads more like: "Noah entered - and his sons, and his wife, and the wives of his sons with him - into the ark from before the floodwaters."

Thanks Jeremy. I understand. I'll need to check the underlying Hebrew when the English tagging doesn't make sense.  And I'll want to develop a tagging system to tell me where I've already sorted it out.
