preferred Bible versions -asking the impossible?

I may be asking the impossible. I note that the commentaries on the Gospels often refer to the Septuagint for OT quotes, and that it often differs from the Masoretic text. . So I treated myself to a Greek LXX. I'd like to be able to look up OT quotes in LXX when studying NT books. At the moment I've got LXX as my preferred Bible. But now it always appears, e.g. in connection with a book on Genesis, for which I would prefer the Hebrew. I can see 2 possible, roundabout, solutions. 1. Change my preferred Bible according to what I'm doing. or 2. Open the LXX or Hebrew in another tab. Is there any lazier way of doing it? Trouble with L4 is it does so much to make it easy that I've got very lazy! Can I change my preferred Bible within one particular layout? e.g. when reading a book on Genesis to have the Hebrew as preferrred version, and for NT Bible study the LXX?

There's a couple of features that I think will help you. First is the "Target" feature. Click on the book icon in the upper left corner of your Greek LXX and select "Send hyperlinks here". Now in that layout, Bible hyperlinks will be directed to just that panel, regardless of what your preferred Bible is. You'll see a little target icon pasted on top of the book icon where it's active.

The other feature is "Link set". For the type of study you're doing, I often like to have Hebrew and Greek, and English translations of each, open at the same time to the same spot. By clicking on the book icon again and selecting one of the "Link sets" you can have multiple panels track each other. So you might have set "A" link the LXX and BHS and some English translations together for looking at the OT passage, then have link set B link together NA27, UBS, and some English translations together for looking at the NT passage at the same time. Remember you can have more than once instance of a book open at a time, so you can have, say, a copy of NRSV in both link sets.

Thanks. I've been playing with it and it's helpful. It doesn't do everything I'd like, but it also does more than I'd hoped for in some respects. And now I see how to do links and what they're useful for! Can you, or anyone else, tell me why my LXX has parallel columns and some big variants?

Probably because those are places where the textual traditions within Greek translations of the OT diverge widely. Textual criticism applies to the LXX too... Just look at this beast.

If you have the new NETS translation of the LXX you will find a few books with two translations because of the extent of variation in the text. What you may be expecting is the "standard" Byzantine LXX used in Byzantine church services - a translation of it is in the works.

I been looking at that. Seems I need to learn not only Greek, but maybe German too. And some Latin too?

Also, all the page 3 samples are to the same Genesis 1:1 [:)]

(To say nothing of it not being all the OT, and a number of the volumns are on the "extra" books not in all versions of the Canon.)

I'll think I'll skip that one and read something easier to use, given my current language skills and needs.

I've got Septuaginta: morphologically tagged edition. In fact the page of LXX has now answered my question. One column is headeed Theodotion version, and the other Old Greek version. The Goettingen LXX is way beyond the requirements of a missionary trying to understand the Bible passages well enough to retell them as a story comprehensible to semi-literate Albanian Muslim villagers! But the pedantic streak in me needs to know what the original says, tho I'm not so concerned with textual criticism. Does it really matter whether the religious leaders said: "He saved others, let him save himself!" or "You saved others, now save yourself!"? Not to me, nor to those with whom I share the story. The mocking is the same, and we experience the same sort of mocking today from people who don't want to know!
