It's worth checking your pre-pubs
A few of the resources included in Logos 8 packages are currently on pre-pub or Community Pricing. So upgrading to Logos 8 may cost you less than you think, thanks to no longer needing to pay for those pre-pubs! Ones I had pre-ordered include:
- Handfuls on Purpose ($6, Silver+)
- Patrologiae Cursus Completus, Series Graeca, Part 1 (vols. 1–18) ($90, Diamond+)
- The Biblical Illustrator: New Testament Collection (30 vols.) ($57, Bronze+)
- The Holy Spirit in Mission: Prophetic Speech and Action in Christian Witness ($8.99, P&C Bronze+)
- UBS Handbook Series Upgrade (6 vols.) ($70.99, Platinum+)
- Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown's Unabridged Commentary on the Old and New Testaments (6 vols.) ($79.95, Bronze+)
- Analytical Lexicon of the Vulgate ($19.99, Platinum+)
- Pillar New Testament Commentary: The Letters to Timothy and Titus ($29.99, Gold+)
- A New English Translation of the Septuagint (NETS) ($19.99, Gold+)
- Lexham Geographic Commentary on Acts through Revelation ($32.99, Silver+)
- The O. Palmer Robertson Systematic Theology Collection (5 vols.) ($56.99, Reformed Gold+)
- Christianity Today (1956–2016) (1,000+ issues) ($99.99, Diamond+)
In my case, the Bronze upgrade comes in $20 less than the cost of the two pre-pubs it contains, the Platinum upgrade comes in at $70 less than what I would have been paying for those pre-pubs. It's as if they're paying me to upgrade (at least that's what I'm telling my wife!).

Great point Mark as I was just checking out my Prepubs vs L8 packages!
On that note Mark, can you please advise whether to cancel the prepubs after you order a base package that includes them or will FL do that automatically?

In the past you haven't needed to manually cancel them - the order just doesn't go through when they're processed.

FL has done that for us in the past, but there's nothing wrong with you doing so. IIRC it may not show on your orders page, but they won't ship and bill you for the separate pre-pub after you've purchased it in a library.
EDIT: Sorry, Mark got to you while I was typing.

I was looking through the packages and noticed this also. Since I plan on upgrading soon, I'll be canceling those pre-pubs. [:)]
Thanks for posting, Mark

Thanks for pointing these out Mark. I had quite a few of them too.

Good idea to check even pre-pubs you haven't ordered. Smyth & Helwys commentary set was too expensive for me @ $1,199.99. But it's included in the Diamond upgrade, which for me is only $290 more than the Platinum upgrade. So I'd be saving over $900, which is more than the cost of the upgrade. [:P]

How can those pre-pubs be included in packages when a lot of those pre-pubs aren't even close to being in development yet? Are they guaranteed to be published even though their pre-pub pages don't mention that?

Faithlife can calculate estimated revenue of including a resource in a base package. I guess if that revenue exceeds the production cost, they can fast-track a resource through the process. That's certainly happened before. When it did, the resource was immediately available to base package owners, but often could only be purchased separately quite a bit later. (Although some resources have the little asterisk by them, meaning they'll only be available to base package owners later, too.)

Thanks, Mark. I'll take a look at my pre-pubs again.

So, Mark, the Smyth & Helwys 34-volume commentary set is on pre-pub, yet is included in some of the packages. However, no asterisk highlights their inclusion in these sets. Does that mean that the Smyth & Helwys series is currently ready to go and will be able to be downloaded as soon as the package is purchased?
It all seems a bit unclear.
And thanks so much for all your help in providing such excellent feedback and comments!

Yes, that's correct. Several volumes that are technically still in pre-pub (some of which are still "Gathering Interest"), are available right now in Logos 8, including Smyth & Helwys.
It's only those with an asterisk that aren't yet available.

Thanks so much, Mark! It is odd, then, that they still list it as a pre-pub. In any case, this virtually ensures that I'll be getting at least the Diamond upgrade! It has Smyth & Helwys plus the Christianity Today back issues.

I presume it's to give people who've ordered it an opportunity to buy Logos 8 before the resources are released. If S&H had downloaded just before Logos 8 launched (or even on the same day), that would be a LOT more expensive for most people than getting it in a Logos 8 base package. Almost everyone who's ordered it would be better served buying Baptist Platinum at least.
