How can I go back to Logos 7?

Perhaps I am confused, but how does prioritize do anything different than the default Bible? Prioritization is how you set your preferred (default) resources...
The point that I think you are missing David is that prioritisation is seen as a more advanced feature whereas the Preferred/Default Bible was a very basic and easy to use. I suspect that many long term users rarely used the prioritisation feature while everyone would have set the Preferred/Default Bible at least once.
I actually disagree. Prioritization has been in the getting started with logos videos since at least L5. It is one of the first things a new user of Logos should learn if they actually use the getting started tutorials. It's also early on in the help file. So I would hardly say that prioritization itself is an advanced feature. Now, there are strategies for prioritization that are advanced, but not prioritizing resources themselves.
Problem here David is you are not seeing the issues from the perspective of the people asking the questions.
You can't assume that everyone watched the videos, you can't assume that because a feature has been available for a long time it is widely used and/or understood. You can't assume that because it's OK fro you its OK for other users. There have been a number of valid issues raised which Faithlife need to respond to.
The point about prioritisation is that the software does not require you to make changes for it to function effectively. The Preferred/Default Bible has been front and centre for a long time.

I think David wants this thread to stay on top, Logos7 is so good!
Actually, my question would be whether L8 is a forced install. On L7, you can decline installation. I'd buy the large package, as long as I could use L7 (I have my doubts about the timing of 8.1).

Yes, you can decline installation but for once I think your doubts are entirely unfounded. You have no need of the home page. Simply set to open to a blank page or your most common layout and you'll bypass most everything people are complaining about.

I've never found the homepage that useful (except when it used to give a list of what was recently added or updated--seems like that feature disappeared), so yeah, just skip it and do some Bible study.

Three negatives so far:
1) Home page is pretty bad. No way to clear out the junk and just peruse ONLY items that interest me. Cannot find out how to choose default Bible.
2)Clicking on Daily Bible reading plan jumps to a new layout rather than opening my Bible in my preferred layout to the correct readings.
3) Corresponding highlights from one translation to another is gone.
All three of these things are being addressed with the exception of maybe default Bible. For that, you can prioritize it in your library. https://wiki.logos.com/prioritizing
Can someone from Logos please confirm that these three items will be fixed in the next update 8.1?

While it is possible to climb around the Home Page, (and yes, do it once an be done), it is a bit odd that a Home Page, that thing by title that has the idea (at least for me) as being a comfortable, useful and effective starting place.... is, as created one of the first things many users find objectionable. Maybe it has outlived its usefulness...or... maybe it's potential usefulness has been lost sight of.
Just thoughts...

Are you complaining about this for yourself (because you used that home page tool very frequently and now miss it; if so, why are you changing preferred Bible so often? Can you help us understand your use case), or are you complaining on behalf of other (theoretical) users?
We knew this was not on the home page when we launched 8.0. We also knew that most people buying Logos 8 were already Logos 7 customers and had already set their preferred Bible.
We have plans to make setting your preferred Bible easier in a future release. This may not involve the home page.

Thanks Bradley
For item 2 here I'd love to know the rationale for the current behaviour because it really makes no sense to me.

Can you help us understand your use case)
Personal use case for many advanced Bible prioritizations allows cross reference in a Bible translation to pop-up with that translation's text (instead of preferred Bible).

From yesterday's reading, I'm not entirely sure I need L8. See what shows in 8.1. L7 works great.
Problem in all of Logos' rollouts ... don't know what is being lost. I heard 3 columns max, etc.

It’s not the only aspect David, but it’s the first impression you get of the software and it is badly broken and makes the software look cheap. It should not of been released in this state. I’m glad your confident it will be fixed by 8.1.
The home page is supposed to be a show pony of Logos 8 and it looks like a malnourished underweight pony. It’s not your place to tell me I can not provide honest feedback on that.

Added to the fact it’s incompete and we are being told we have to wait for a future update before we can remove all the marketing fluff from it, it does not give a good first chance impression of the software.
Honestly, if that is what you are judging all of L8 on I think you have severely missed the point. It's going to be fixed. It isn't fixed today. No sense going on and on about it, just move on.

Hi Bradley
It's the other users who I don't think are getting a fair hearing in some of the responses.
I'm comfortable with Prioritisation and the last time that I used the Home Page to set my preferred Bible I think it was because one of the Android Apps either messed it up or I accidentally messed it up using the App.
I appreciate that the Faithlife Team are busy around the launch period and you rely on the community here to respond with help but some of the advice being offered is not really helpful especially when some of the responses seem dismissive of the issue.
I certainly feel like some of the responses that I have received have been less than helpful and have added to the sense of frustration that I feel with Logos 8. As I said elsewhere my entry point was the Web Site, no mention there of missing features or Early Adopter. The only area I was expecting to be a bit of an issue was Notes but I was informed about that, I'm just failing to understand why as a long term user I did not get some more guidance on the likely impact of upgrading or at least a document with known issues and missing/incomplete features.

Hi doc
Would you be able to expand on your concerns? I understand that being unable to customise the Explorer section is causing disatisfaction to some but I get the sense that there is more to it from your perspective.
If so, it would be good to understand that

I figure marketing rules, so your request for guidance would not happen. I believe we should get what you call for, but alas.

Problem is Sean I rely on home page to access multple reading plans and the ‘cards’ for my reading plans are broken. They take me to the wrong bible version. If I use the reading plan document it opens the correct version. So FL have bromen a workflow that was not broken.
Sean Boisen said:Two constructive suggestions if you don't like the new homepage look:
- "Show Program Settings" in the command bar, then under General / At Startup Open to, you can select a specific layout, or your most recent one.
- MJ cleverly suggested here that you can fill up the dashboard section with cards that are important to you, which will push the Explore section down (if that's what you don't want to see).
I'll admit that i've bypassed the home page since Logos 4: it was too busy and not useful enough (don't tell my boss!). But i'm giving it another try: I find the redesign around task cards genuinely useful. But you don't have to look at them if you have a different opinion.

Knowing your issues the folks here are really helpful in guiding people with questions. Although people tend to not like change, take some time look at the Morris Proctor videos and give it a shot and learning how it works. FL is good on their 30 day returns, but this is a much nicer and smoother change than to Logos 4 and I was on the Beta team at that time. Wow that was a change...as is Logos 8, but feels much cleaner and robust. I will no doubt like it more as i spend time working in it. Only have had a couple of hours to work through it so far.

doc, sorry you are having this issue. I'd like to know more about it so that I can work to resolve it for you. I haven't had any luck trying to get it to happen. Can you help me try to reproduce it? Anything unique about your setup that I can test? Are there certain steps that led to this behavior?

In some ways I'd like to go back to the old Volkswagen Bug. It worked. I could work on it. Nostalgia hits hard. Remember vacuum assisted dynamic shift? How cool was that! But alas!
Old things have passed away and new things really are better. L8 is miles better even than the really great L7. Give it a chance and you will find yourself caught in the thrill of zooming around the corners in a sleek blue sports car, like never before.

Just to illustrate, on the blog, a user says the little link letters are mostly gone (from the user display ... they still work). The FL person glosses over, and I'm thinking, huh?
Folks seem excited over what they didn't get ... usable searches, etc. It's really interesting.

And that’s ok to respectfully disagree Cynthia, but I think it really downgrades the software and if I was looking to purchase a bible software package for the first time I would take one look at this and move onto a competitor. But I have invested too much in this product so that is not an option now

Alan, thanks for responding. they are custom reading plans, setup to use ESV, but when I click on the reading card it takes me to JPS I think. I’m at work at moment so can’t give you further details but if you need anything specific let me know and I can get back to you when home tonight. Also they no longer show up in the new mobile app, only pre-built plans show up as avail to add.

That’s the problem Denise, FL have focussed on the glossy stuff so they can say look we’ve got something new for you even though it wasn’t broken and i am yet to come across anything about how they have improved searching.

I’d much rather be crushing the country side in my little red car with some improvements under the hood to the engine rather than a sleek blue sports car with lots of dents in the body. Each to their own I guess when it comes to cars.

Thanks for the info ... here in the forums people are complaining the link letters take up to much space :-) Yes, there have been arguments over how much information that was coded around the book cover icon was essential to bring over ..

Can someone explain specifically how to go back to 7 on a MacPro? I'm a FL Connect member and downloaded 8 for free, but I don't have the time or desire to work through this rollout which actually loses functionality, and then have to wait an unspecified amount of time to maybe get back the functionality I currently had in 7. I don't ever use the web app, don't see the use or need. I purchased the desktop version for a reason--maximum functionality. I don't need or want a stripped down version. I'm not upset at all, just wasn't expecting a beta version to be released. I'd be glad to switch to 8 if/when all the functionality of 7 makes it way into 8. Until then, I just want to do what all I was able to do 48 hours ago. Thanks!

If you reset your Bible Reading Plan layout, does it start working correctly? If you have customized that layout, then it will use the Bible you specified in the layout, rather than the Bible in the reading plan.

As I understand since you are a connect member you don't have any choice. I believe Phil Gons said on 5th Nov all connect users would be forced on to the new notes tool and that implies you will be automatically upgraded to Logos 8 if you hadn't done so already. FL has really misread what users wanted when it comes to Logos 8 interface, they only listened to the portion of users who wanted change and did not listen to all users - but that is typical of FL, they only listen to users who are telling them what they want to hear.

That fixed this issue Andrew, thank you for chiming in with the solution. This was never an issue with Logos 7 for me.Does that mean I am forced to stick with the default reading plan layout for Logos 8 ?
Next issue is a card on the home page I don't want, that I can't get rid of because there is no menu to remove it. What am I missing ?
