Canvas: what applications?

I looked a bit at canvas and am uncertain as to what use I would have for it. It seems to me like a diagramming meets presentation software. Clearly the developers had a vision of how useful it would be. I would love to hear from both faithlife staff and L8 users how they see this being used on a regular basis.

The tests I saw reminded me in a pleasant way of chart sermons [:D] Because I like to use graphic organizers for teaching and Bible study, I've only tried graphic organizer type canvases. Another group that I saw in testing were what I think of as presentation slides.

It's a great flexible tool that you could use for any number of things! Pretty looking Bible-related images. Exegetical breakdowns. Slide backgrounds.

You really do have a blank canvas!

One thought I've just had - it would be really nice if there were integration with the media tool, especially the abilitiy to create "smart" backgrounds for use in sermons.

I used Canvas today to identify the themes I will preach. Bridging the Propositional Outlines visual filter with the Sermonic ideas I will communicate. Using color and indentation I am able to visually see the connections between the clauses.

I see it as a way to put a lot more detail into the Observation portion of Bible study. One can not only highlight but can show relationships, add notations, create lists, and link up to Logos tools and resources. We can't do all that in our Bibles.

I like that for this purpose it will make me slow down as I study, since the tool takes awhile to use. I won't use it all the time for this reason, but can see it helping me do a bit more thinking about the text as I work through it.

It may also be useful occasionally in teaching. I can export it as a picture and either use it in something like PowerPoint or make copies to hand out.

It will take awhile to get used to and become proficient in, however.
