Canvas Tool

Trying to figure out how to type text in the canvas tool. Found the text box but do not see the ability to type in the box. I click everywhere and I do not see any text that is typing.

You cannot type into the text box if it is over Bible text. It has to be outside the text.

When I select a text box (click on it in the Left Hand panel), it opens on the Canvas layout and lets me immediately start typing in it without doing anything more, as long as it opens away from any Bible text.
