Library Filtering by Subject

Why doesn't it organize alphabetically? You just have to keep clicking more and more and more and none of it has any alphabetical ordering to it.

Also, how do I find all the resources affiliated with a particular denomination?

Or denomination package that I bought like Baptist 7, for example?

thanks!

If you click on the Title heading it will sort alphabetically by title - similarly for some of the other column headings.

Multiple clicking on the column header cycles through sorting ascending, sorting descending, unsorted

    This isn't available

This also isn't supported - something that has been requested. It could be difficult to implement as when you buy Baptist 7 you would get a different set of resources downloaded compared to someone else who bought the same package depending on what resource you already had in your library.

Graham, I think Angela may be referring to the facet values. If this is the case, the default ordering of facets is by number of hits (I think Bible Book is now an exception). Alphabetic ordering has been requested numerous times and is definitely not "off the table". I think it would be helpful to have a toggle in Notes and Library like we do in Psalms Explorer for example.

You may well be right. Good spot.

In which case, I agree with the rest of your comments[:)]

That would be desirable, but there is a workaround.

If you open the facet in which you are searching, click the search icon above the facets, & enter your search item, the desired item will appear in the facet list—I learned that spelling counts [:P]

  • Yes, I meant alphabetical ordering. Like when I click on the author section of my library and I want it alphabetically ordered. Like when you're searching by author in a public library database. Instead it's just a random listing of all the authors of all the books in my library. If I don't quite know the last name of the author it can make it difficult to find.

    it's just a random listing

They shouldn't be random. All facets in Logos sort by number of occurrences.

Although I understand the value of this order, sometimes it is not the best order. It often makes finding the desire facet very difficult. An alternate alphabetical sort order would improve the user experience.

+1 [Y] for alternate alphabetic facet option, especially for Author, MyTags, Publisher, Series

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand I can alphabetize by title heading. What I mean is under the filter options. If I click on Filter > Subject.... all the stuff listed under subject is randomly listed by highest number of resources in each subject rather than alphabetical. This makes no sense to me. If I'm looking for a specific subject, I then have to keep clicking "More" to continue going through the random list until I find the subject I want.

Also, if I can go to Logos.com and search by denomination in order to find resources from a specific tradition to add to my library, I don't understand why I can't do the same thing in my Logos? It seems to me the tagging is there?

You'll do this only if you have not figured out to type your subject into the find box at the top of the facet list - click the magnifying glass icon. While it is not my first choice, it is common to use some ordering principle other than alphabetic when one has the search function to handle known text titles. In this case, someone thought that your interests were biased towards what you have the most of.

Your are likely correct, but this does not seem a reasonable assumption. If I filter by subject, I may have something specific in mind, not just curiosity as to which subject is most reflected in my library.

Please note that I am not criticizing you, MJ, just questioning FL's logic.

I'm not agreeing with FL either - but wanted people to understand that if they have something in mind, the design assumes they'll type it in at the top.
