Note attached to section of verse(s) and all be highlighted?

I am sure I am missing something but I can't figure out how to create a note and have a section highlighted in addition to the anchor point.  In 7 I would often select a phrase or verse(s) then click add a note and when I was done the Bible text would show an anchor point and the selected area highlighted (that was an option in the notes in 7).  In 8 I only get an anchor point.

By default, the highlighting style in the new Notes Tool is set to "no highlight"

You can change this for each note by clicking the "highlight style" icon

In a future release it will hopefully remember our preferences.
