Any tips for using Logos on a virtual machine?

I've moved my Logos installation onto a virtual machine (Hyper-V on Windows), and performance is suffering significantly as a result. Does anyone else have experience of running Logos on a VM? Any tips?

I've only worked with Oracle VirtualBox, but it gave good performance emulating Win XP on a Wndows 7 host. The best tips from that:

    • allocate as much memory as possible to the Guest OS
    • allocate a full-sized virtual disk rather than letting it increase dynamically (on HDD)
    • If applicable, use guest "additions" (installed in Guest) to improve disk I/O, graphics, peripheral drivers
    • if the host doesn't have a virtual machine instruction set (or the VM can't use it!), then performance will suffer.

Thanks, Dave. My first three are all done. (I've allocated a minimum of 8Gb, but it's expandable.)

I think (with Hyper-V) that I can't even create the VM if virtualisation isn't turned on in the BIOS, but I guess I should check.

I wonder whether having Bitlocker on my host is affecting things?

I tried twice during the Alpha of L8—Gave up both times. Mine was from Mac OS with Parallels. First, I put L7 Windows on the VM. Later tried L7 Mac. Neither one worked very well, but this may be a factor in using Parallels Desktop.

Suggest researching Virtualization storage options: e.g. Hypervisor & Paravirtualization.

One idea is dedicating a physical Solid State Disk (SSD) to virtual machine(s), which can avoid I/O contention with host operating system.
