The Collection guide was intentionally not included as a single section guide, because it didn't seem to make much sense to have a single guide that would be redefined whenever you wanted to use a different collection. It's easy enough to set up your own template if you want this.

I disagree in favor of consistent behavior ... but what I did was add it to an existing guide and then delete the original section ... a rather silly set of actions but it got me what I needed.

Outside of testing, I would use it primarily for subdividing items e.g. Catholic liturgy, Orthodox liturgy, Anglican liturgy, Lutheran liturgy ... and leave them set that way for months if not years.

Right. Those each sound like separate Collection sections. The single section guide set up by default would only let you have one of those defined at a time, which seems ridiculously limited.

Why? You could just make a new guide (using the menu button at the button of the Guides menu). Then set the name to what you want, and then add the Collection section and set the desired collection.
