Logos 8 Notes Most Frustrating
It is just like the change in highlighting in Logos 7. I did not make notes to be used in this way, as with the highlighting in v7. Do I delete them all, go through them one by one, and start all over? Should I use my study time changing my notes to line up with someone visions of how the notes should be or work? Do I have to on every layout change how the notes show up there, go through the filters, to try to get to the correct note(s).
There needs to be a way to integrate OneNote, EverNote, etc. into Logos, so that we are not limited to this note system.
Very Disappointed in this; however, I do have a few weeks to revert back to 7; O, that's right they have made the notes system not backward compatible. So if I revert back to 7, my note system will still be Logos 8.

George, I don't understand what your actual complaint is. What is going on with the Notes Tool that is frustrating you?

1st, According to my notes, I have 20,995 notes, now some of these were converted from highlighting in v7, which to me are not true notes. I use a lot of sub-names in my notes and If I can remember their names, then I can search for them by name and find them; if not than it is hunt and peck.
2nd, those note groups that are turned on with the visible filter, when hover over the flag it does not reveal what note or note group it occupies. So, again, note names are almost useless unless I can remember what I named them or search them one by one.
3rd, If I search by book, Genesis, then it gives me notes for Genesis, say Gen 50:15, but I have no clue in which note group it resides for it is not visible, only Genesis' notes are visible. So I turned on visible filter (see 2 above) for Creation, but that is the wrong note group, so do I turn them all on until I get the correct one? Or should I try, PtG (preaching through Genesis), (SG survey of Genesis, SOT survey of OT, DS dispensation studies), etc.> It maybe a NT study which I cross referenced back to Genesis. So for practical use, I have lost the accompanying notes that went with Gen 50:15. Do you know how to find them, without searching the whole thing note by note?
4th saved layouts now only contain generic notes and not the ones I saved with the layout. Again, if I can remember the name I would have no problem, but almost 21,000 notes and I do not know how many note names and part of the note groups with sub groups; and then, of course there are those old highlight notes from Logos 7 converted to note groups. If I turn on all the note groups, I still cannot determine their group container, see 2 above.
5th, if I understand Logos correctly, there are really no group containers, but just a group container. All is lost, I cannot revert back to Logos 7 and recover my group containers.

Hey George, I am sorry you are having these frustrations. I know that while most users were happy with the new notes tool some have been uprooted from their workflows and that is unfortunate. I hope we fellow users can help you work through this.

On the first part of this I would say that highlights are properly labeled as notations. If you think of your resources as a physical book when you highlight the text of a physical book it truly is a notation in the text. Same in Logos. On the second part of this, I'm still having a hard time understanding what you mean by sub-names and why this is different than it was in L7 vs L8.

If you actually open the notation it will show you which notebook it resides in.

Again, I'm having a hard time visualizing your setup. Do you think you could post some screenshots?

As stated above, I'd really like to see some screenshots so I know what you are talking about and seeing and so that I can try to understand your workflow a little better so your pain points can be understood.
Once we are on the same page we can figure out if the current features of the Notes Tool actually work with your workflow, if future planned updates work with your flow, or if we need to figure out a way synthesize the two together. At that point we can offer suggestions to Faithlife on ways they could potentially make the tool better.
