Practical advice on organizing library

I am constantly finding myself looking up books to buy, only to find out that I already own the resource.  Since the update to Logos 8, I've committed to using Logos more often and want to use it as effectively as I can.

Can anyone offer practical advice on how they organize their library?  I understand it's impossible to know every single resource I have in a large library, but I want to have a better idea of what I have so I can effectively use my resources.

Hi Brad,

I have tagged each resource in my library. I developed my own set of tags that is not as elaborate as some. There are a few folks that have listed their tagging system that you should be able to find on the forums via search. If you want my list, I can put it together for you. The process of tagging your library helps you get familiar with your library. I tag multiple resources at a time using the search box in the library. With L8 and the facets menu that may be even easier.

The benefit of tags is that I can easily sort my library by tags. I can always see new resources that are untagged as well so I can tag them.

From tags you can create collections to include in custom guides. This helps me use my library better in my studies, especially those resources that are monographs. I have tagged resources for background, exegesis, maps and charts, apologetics etc. When I am studying a pericope or topic, my custom guides provide a path to these resources. The Cited By tool also works great for this as well.

I believe the key to knowing your library is using it; and the key to using it is accessing resources that provide helpful information in whatever I am studying.
